George Orwell was off by 25 years; he meant to say, "2009" not "1984

Illegals are suing land-owner in Arizona for "violating their civil rights".

It doesn't get more insane than this.

The Brinks bank robbers should have had today's ACLU; they'd have gotten to keep their swag AND sue the police for "violating their human rights".

    Unfreakingbelievable.

An Arizona man who has waged a 10-year campaign to stop a flood of illegal immigrants from crossing his property is being sued by 16 Mexican nationals who accuse him of conspiring to violate their civil rights when he stopped them at gunpoint on his ranch on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Roger Barnett, 64, began rounding up illegal immigrants in 1998 and turning them over to the U.S. Border Patrol, he said, after they destroyed his property, killed his calves and broke into his home.

It's been a while since I read 1984, but in it doesn't Big Brother choose everyone's spouse for them? ;)

The censorship of any criticism of Israel is also part of American big brother group think

How is it a leap? The title is about 1984, which includes censorship of language and topics. It is very relevant.

You're just looking for a crack to advertize your pet peeve. The thread is about illegal immigration and yes...we know...the Israelis are connected to that, too.

The scope of the threat title is about the book, not just illegal immigration. If you are so anal about the scope of the thread, then why no comment from you about Shmessy's off topic post?

Barnett apparently has a history of this stuff, and has had previous judgements against him...

This may come down the question of whether or not a person can take the law into his own hands and not be held accountable..it will prove to be an interesting discourse.

The ACLU is not involved, except to create hysteria...

Whoa, you're just swinging wildly at everyone this morning, looking for a fight, eh?

My post was completely on topic considering the discussion of Orwell and the Originating Poster who used 1984 in his argument.

It's a nice day, beginning of a new week with new possibilities, cheer up.

And so is bringing up censorship of language or topics in America, 1984-style.

Dude, when did I ever "censor" your views on Israel?

    You seem confused.

I never said you censored anything, I said the current censorship and groupthink in this country is also 1984-like, since the OP brought up the book. And it is as relevant to the thread as your crappy joke that wistah said nothing about.

Not really a news story or maybe just amateurishly done. It presents only one side of the story, and some of that based on an interview over 6 years old. My impression is that some of the facts are missing. The rancher apparently has at least 4 lawsuits against him, including one by a man with a clearly non-Hispanic name.

    Ariz

That said, he should be allowed to keep people off his property assuming it's properly posted. He should not be allowed to hold people at gunpoint, kick people, threaten them with his dog, and so on. Even illegals are human beings and deserved be treated with a little humanity.

Do you expect two sides of a story in the Washington Times??? It is what it is, another biased agenda driven news outlet.

It seems like everything you don't like, fails to pass the DarryIS test, for objectivity.

I didn't see the ACLU mentioned in this article.

Not my test, but a common sense one.. there were two sides to this story and the initial thread was based on false premises and typical right wing hysteria.. some are content with a one sided story.. others are not, it is not all that complicated.

I didn't say anything about Schmessy's "joke" (which it wasn't- sorry, schmessy, if it was) because he was smacking our resident alien commentator from a cult in the Baltics, which is something I'm for all day long.

Sorry Mav. Please feel free to continue your case about how the Israelis have something to do with everything. By the way, I happen to agree with you on a certain level. Fortunately for me, I don't feel like there is any kind of censorship regarding that issue.

Fraudbuster, like most cult members, is paranoid and distrustful of any person or organization that shows contempt for authority and challenges the power elite in the defense of people's civil rights and the Constitution. He thinks there are threats to his "kingdom of the Moon" at every turn.

The ACLU is not right in all cases, but I'd rather have them there than not.
