Yeah us smokers are completely the reason that kids don't have medical insurance. Its only fair to raise the tax I pay 256% to get these kids insurance.

Yeah, perhaps we should tax just the fat people........... or better yet......... maybe just the ugly ones to fund this pig.

It's a stupid bill, it should be veto'd.............. And the a-holes in congress should actually use their heads and go back and figure out a fairer way to spread out the cost of the program. Plus, what the objective, to get as many kids on the public dole as possible. Perfect, what better way is there to get the kiddies thinking about personal responsible. The government can't even figure a way to get me my passport inside of 12 weeks, yet I bet they'll nail this child insurance stuff right off

I don't even smoke, but the answer to isn't to selectively tax the sh!t out of one segment of society to make up for deficits in another. The government isn't the answer to everthing.

RULE OF THUMB: When the socialist NYT is b*tching about something, it's probably a good thing.

They whine and whail about Smoking, Seat Belts and McDonalds but you will very seldom hear a liberal address the "Crack Mothers" the Scumbag Coke Sniffing Crack Head Whores that live in America's housing projects who get their kids hooked on Crack before they are even born.

They say Fat People help cause the rise in cost of health care, has anybody told this to that Disgusting Tub Of Sh!t Michael Moore?

The NY Times should only be used for your dog to diarrhea on.

Burns my a$s when liberals start squawking about tobacco a legal product and then look the other way when all these animal gang banger bastards are shooting and killing each other, selling drugs in grammar school and they've got thousands of kids all across the country who don't know who their father is, many of them don't even know who their mothers are and the liberal screw balls are all fired up over tobacco, bacon fat and talk radio.

    I don't understand this.

George Bush was willing to grant AMNESTY to 20 MILLION ILLEGAL ALIENS who will BANKRUPT social security, medicare, and medicaid.

And yet he is not willing to expand insurance for homegrown American children??

Are MEXICAN CHILDREN MORE IMPORTANT THAN AMERICAN CHILDREN??

Read somewhere that this will cost the equivalent of three days of our incursion into Iraq.. need to put some balance on these numbers..

All roads lead back to Iraq...............

It's HOW is it funded, not just HOW MUCH is it funded.

Besides, it's not that the program should not be expanded, Bush has a proposal to increase spending 5B over the next 5 years to 30B. He also aims to keep the program designed for the under-means children in the country.

The typical democratic response is to OVERFUND the program and expand is to include the non-poor as well as the poor. Like I said, lets get them all on the government dole right.

The why this thread is disingenuious. The quibble is not whether to expand the program, it's how MUCH. Big difference.

The new spending would be financed by an increase in the federal excise tax on tobacco products. The tax on cigarettes would rise to $1 a pack, from the current 39 cents.

Don't you see the answer is more, and more, and more, and more.....taxes.

If these losers in office were truly bright, and wanted to save the children, they wouldn't have added over $20 Billion in ear marks for spinich farmers in the last war bill, and then could have easily had most of the cash for this plan. Were the sailor truly worried about fiscal restraint, he wouldn't have run an administration that is the largest government in history.

We are taxed enough. Want to save the kids? CUT government someplace else, and move that money here.

I loved him in Team America World Police. He had mustard stains all over him, and a hot dog in his hands at all times. That movie was too funny.

So what are you saying then, he should do this because he wanted to do Amnesty? How about not doing both because they are grossly engineered. I'm not sure he doesn't want to do it, he just doesn't want to tax more to.

So what is your point? That if the government pisses money away in one place, it should be able to piss it away someplace else? That's why we're knee deep in debt, at well over $8 Trillion. When Bob wants a bridge to nowhere, Janet gets he gazebo at her City Hall.

    Let's tax:

Candy and sugar - becuase it is bad for us.
Cigs - because they are bad for us.
Guns - because they are bad for us.
    ...
    ...
    ...
Books - because they are bad for us.
Internet - because it is bad for us.
#%^$ it - let's tax everything that isnt liberal - because the government knows best.

What ever happend to the liberals that would fight to the death to defend our right to say or do things?
