    01/05/2006
    Gen. Peter Pace
    Chairman Joint Chief of Staff

I made what amounts to the same comments in a letter I sent to Rep. Murtha a month and a half ago. Rep. Murtha did not feel obligated to respond to my letter. Gen. Pace certainly carries more weight than I do on this matter. It will be interesting to see if Rep. Murtha will respond to Gen. Pace's comments. IMO, Rep. Murtha will instead choose to cut and run from Gen. Pace's remarks.

I would imagine that the Chairman of The Joint Chiefs of Staff knows more about what the troops are thinking than NEM does.

So NEM believes that our man in uniform is a facist. Next thing you know someone on the left will be declaring that are soldiers are in charge of gulags like Stalin's army or act like the savages of Pol Pot's militia. Eventually the left will have our troops kicking down doors and terrorizing innocent women and children.

"In a statement released by Murtha, the decorated Marine veteran responded that the real damage to recruitment comes from prolonged deployments, inadequate equipment, and the 'lack of any connection between Iraq and the brutal attacks of 9/11.'"

But, of course, the righties don't care about those things because to do that would mean they would have to question Bush, and heaven forbid they should be anything other than toadies.

Nah, I'll have to say that Rep. Murtha's comments hurt the American military just a wee bit less than Bush's actions, namely sending our troops into a hopeless quagmire to get shot at by right-wing religious nutcases.

If you want to point fingers at who's hurting our military, look at the guy at the top.

What? You're asking the righties to take responsibility for what their candidate does? Please, they only talk about personal responsibility, but they certainly don't practice it. They're still blaming Clinton, those backward looking righties.

    Personal responsibility?

Nice comment from a person who thinks the government needs to be everyones daddy.

    Hypocritical lefty, as usual.

You all might want to spend some time at this site, interesting site,
    http://www.sftt.org/main.cfm

This article on their site blasts the Pentagon Bean Counters, including John Murta, as having had a deliterious effect on providing our troops with sufficient body armor.

    http://www.sftt.org/main.cfm?action...nKey=cmpDefense&htmlCategoryID=29&htmlId=4464
The entire disastrous story of inferior body armor is due to the simple fact that when it comes to America's Grunts, no one in position of authority cares. Forget the media events and the crocodile tears at Arlington National Cemetery or the amputee wards at Bethesda and Walter Reed.
If any reader is a resident of the 12th Congressional District of Pennsylvania, you might want to read the following quote from your representative's web page:
"Congressman Murtha is so well-respected for his first-hand knowledge of military and defense issues that he has been a trusted adviser to presidents of both parties on military and defense issues and is one of the most effective advocates for the national defense in the country. He is ranking member and former chairman of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, a Vietnam combat veteran and a retired Marine Corps colonel with 37 years of service, a rare combination of experience that enables him to understand defense and military operations from every perspective." (Emphasis added.)

And, If you get the chance, ask Jack Murtha to explain why his beloved Marines are dying today due to inferior body armor after he has spent nearly 32 years as a powerful congressman with real authority over the very defense budgets responsible for fielding the best-available protection for our Grunts?

As you know, you go to war with the army you have not the army you wish you had.

Weren't those the words of the Secretary of Defense??

Nahh...those words, directed at a soldier questioning why they need to salvage scrap to protect themselves...those words wouldn't hurt morale. NOT AT ALL.

But the reich loves Mr. Rumsfailed... His cute little old semi-senile man routine, his quips, his botched post-war plan. The reich loves these things. And they would rather see more troops killed, rather than admitting mistake, and forcing the man they blindly covet, the executive, to replace Rumsfailed with someone more competant.

Personally, I think being in Iraq, living with the knowledge that any day could be your last, is what hurts troop morale. People have every right to criticize a war effort - there is more than just troop morale at stake.

"Divorced from reality"? That's was a Republican campaign buzzword, if I recall. We can all do without soundbytes.

Assuming that was a sound byte (I have no idea) I'll look forward to 400 more such objections when certain others post.

Hey whatever, it's your credibility. It's hard to take anybody seriously when they talk in platitudes.

90% of soldiers are so disillusioned that they've become liberals

Oh, Harry, are these the desperate cries of the right, throwing out numbers willy nilly? Anyone can make up numbers. Murtha has a lot of support from veterans and soldiers, in part beause his credentials are impeccable (from a conservative point of view). I would assume support for Murtha would more or less parallel the growing opposition to the war among troops. Do you have other information.
