Freeney's sack, the Colt's pressure in the 2nd half and Cunningham's final rush were all game momentum changers.

Why do we not incorporate it more?

In Manning's case, I was saying we should try more all out pressure.

It's the difference between dying slowly or dying quickly.

We don't have Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis.

incorporate doesnt mean that rushing more than 1 will result in a sack. its hard to sack manning ...they pressured him more than i thought they would frankly

The Colts have a solid offensive line, and Manning has a quick release. If the risk/reward associated with blitzing doesn't work out to Belichick, I'm okay with it.

Not sacking. Rather put pressure on Manning to throw faster than he wants. That's what other teams do to Manning. Look at what happens when you do not pressure him. He scores 14pts really fast. When he was pressured by Cunningham, he lobbed the ball, and Sanders got the INT.

Manning and Brady are pocket QBs. If you blitz them and pressure them, they will make mistakes.

Patriots have not still have not played well in the 4th quarter. They need to improve on this, or they won't go far in the playoffs. Scoring little and allowing TDs in the 4th can only go so far...

I am really worried about the Jets game. Pats do not do well in the 4th quarter, when the Jets are 4th-quarter miracle-workers..

Are you familiar with the phrase, "easier said than done?"

I don't think it is quite as simple as saying extra pressure = success.

Sometimes that extra pressure doesn't get there in time, or at all.

The result is often one of those TD highlight passes to Wayne or whomever.

Thing is the DB ends up getting the blame rather than the extra pass rusher on those plays.

If extra pressure was always a positive and never a negative then every team would bring extra pressure on every snap. Unfortunately it's not quite that simple.

Relax, yeah the Pats D played a lot better when they put pressure on Manning, but when you have a 17 point lead with 9 minutes left, that just isnt the way to play D. Doing that you increase the chance of a score in minimal time, like a long bomb. Playing prevent, atleast prevents this and takes some time off the clock.

On the other hand BOB deserves some criticism for the play calling on the drive that started with 9 minutes left. The pass on 1st down was not the right call at all, atleast when Brady saw the blitz coming he could have audible'd to a run. Then with the incompletion on 1st down, you are stuck on 2nd and 3rd down and end of up with a 3 and out taking around a minute off the clock.

I wouldnt really worry about the Pats play in the 4th quarter. Last week vs. the Steelers didnt mean much, that was all garbage time. This week its really tough to criticize when you are going against Manning, one of the best QBs in the league.

As for the Jets, game that will be a very good and entertaining game and the winner of that will most likely win the AFC East

It seemed like the Colts D started blitzing more in the 4th quarter and we struggled against that.

Play coverage, get toasted. Be aggresive and give yourself a shot. Hopefully they figured that out today. Fine let Big Ben feel like a hero and go up and down the field. When it's Peyton Manning your just asking for trouble.

The Jets are a very good team. Their last-minute heroics are starting to become a habit.

However, as it concerns the Pats, they've had their bad moments certainly, but you don't get to 8-2 without playing well in the 4th qtr.

Score at start of 4th quarter, plan/need to do, and result:

    Pats 31, Bengals 17
One more score, run clock out
    Pats win 38-24

    Jets 21, Pats 14
Shut Jets down, score and catch up
    Pats lose 28-14

    Pats 31, Bills 23
One more score, run clock out
    Pats win 38-30

    Pats 27, Dolphins 14
One more score, run clock out
    Pats win 41-14

    Ravens 17, Pats 10
Shut opponent down, score and catch up
    Pats win 23-20

    Pats 20, Chargers 3
One more score, run clock out
    Pats win 23-20

    Pats 21, Vikings 10
One more score, run clock out
    Pats win 28-18

    Browns 24, Pats 7
    Panic mode
    Browns win 34-14

    Pats 23, Steelers 3
    The clock is your friend
    Pats 39, Steelers 26

    Pats 28, Colts 14
One more TD, work the clock
    Pats win 31-28

In my opinion there is plenty of room for improvement, but overall the team is doing what they need to do far more often than not in the 4th quarter.

The Colts can carry on all they like but as long as they have their offensive line together it doesn't matter what skill position players they trot out... Manning makes them all better. He's a hell of a player.

Its not just the deep pass that is the risk either.
If you blitz, the hot route is often a slant. You have one tackler to stop a TD. In a league where the average QB completes well over 60% of his passes, there is a lot of danger in having a receiver one move or broken tackle from taking a 4 yard pass to the house.
When the talent of your blitzer, as well as your first 4 rushers is questionable, you are taking a greater risk because you wont get there and have weakened your coverage and amount of tacklers.

All out pressure gets you killed against a QB like Manning. Count how many men we sent when Cunningham almost got to Manning. I bet we rushed 4, 5 at the most. I think it's encouraging that the D got to PM when the game was on the line. I just find it unfortunate they could do nothing in the previous two 4th quarter drives which made the game close in the first place.

They sacked Roethlisberger 5 times. does anybody watch the games, or is it just sack more, pass more every time it's close?

I'm sure they would have liked to do more than force 3 ints, like get some sacks, but that Peyton fella and his line are kind of talented.

Definitely was more than 4. The Pats pass rush with only 4 is probably one of the worst in the league. The only way they get to QBs is to blitz and send 5 or 6. It seems like this new aggressive style of play is working out and the players love it as well from what they have been saying
