    Or less than that :

"One source said that Mayo was expected to be out 6 to 8 weeks with the Grade 3 MCL sprain, but the other source said that the timetable is "not that bad" and Mayo is expected to be back quicker than that."

You should work on your thread titles.

We better pray Guyton is drinking his milk and eating his wheaties. The rest of the D is going to have to step up.

I really don't like this. this was a loss we could ill afford. I don't know how functional this D will become without Mayo.

If true thats terrible. But I bet its more like 4-6 since they said he was expected to return sooner.

Agreed, the title is more terrifying than the article

Re: Mayo out 6-8wks - sprained MCL- grade 3

    Don't count on it.

When a grade III injury occurs, patients usually wear a knee immobilizer and protect weight-bearing (crutches) for the first week to 10 days following injury. Patients should remove the immobilizer several times a day to work on bending their knee. After that time, the patient can begin wearing a hinged knee brace, and can begin to increase their range of motion in the knee. They can apply more weight to the knee as pain allows. Once the patient can flex the knee at least to 100 degrees, they may begin riding a stationary bicycle. The crutches can be discontinued one the patient is able to walk without limping. Jogging can begin once the patient has regained 60% of their quadriceps strength (compared to the opposite side), and agility drills can begin one they have regained 80% of their strength. Complete rehab from a grade III MCL tear can take 3-4 months

The DNA of this team is to trudge on and leave the wounded in the MASH unit. Been doing in too long now to doubt them. They'll have some tough games and may lose a couple, but will stay afloat no problem.

No one circles the wagons better than the New England Patriots...

Sometimes it doesn't hurt a team when these injuries occur. It allows the opportunity to develop backup players, and it puts less wear and tear on the star player who gets laid up.

    Crap..

seems like the pats playing more 4-3 was to maximize Mayo's talent and now he is down for a while.

Let's hope he is a quick healer

Re: Mayo out 6-8wks - sprained MCL- grade 3

A medical definition is meaningless, how long his specific injury is expected to keep him out is what matters and your title gives one of two opinions from the same link. Each injury is unique and doesn't fit perfectly into the box of a definition especially as those are generic for normal people not athletes who are stronger, in better shape and who get access to better treatment.

    Now change the thread title.

Re: Mayo out 6-8wks - sprained MCL- grade 3

4 weeks, 6 week, 8 weeks, whatever. We are losing our best defensive player for some tough games. We don't play a bad team until Week 7 against the Bucs.

Re: Mayo out 6-8wks - sprained MCL- grade 3

Pffft. Please. Medical definitions rule. Medical definitions are what allowed Shira Springer and Tom E. Curran to tell us that Brady's 2009 season was in jeopardy because of the infection, and that he may never be the same.

    Oh wait....

Yeah, we have a tough schedule this year. Bottom line, if we beat the teams in our division we're in the playoffs.

Re: Mayo out 6-8wks - sprained MCL- grade 3

Neither source is a declared MD. Neither source says it is not a
3rd degree MCL. Prepare for the worst don't try to sugar coat the
seriousness of the injury. If it is less than 6 weeks we'll all be thankful.

I'm with you -- that sounds spot on. I've done Grade II and, though I was jogging in 4-6 weeks, it was a lot longer before it was 100%. The diagnoses are pretty accurate nowadays.
