So you think an expenditure of >700mm is helping sink the economy? Is that the position you're taking?

Not as much as it'll cost us to simply allow health care costs to continue to skyrocket.

Compared to what?? how much does it normally to begin such a massive undertaking..

How much did it cost to start the big pharma plan under George Bush??

How much did it cost to start Homeland Security??

Alone it sounds like a lot, but need to compare it to something..

So does that mean you feel that Obamacare is going to keep costs from doing just that, skyrocketing?

We know the albatross won't save any money at all it will accelerate the rise in health care cost and ultimately lead to rationing by the government. If we had moved towards something like Medical Savings accounts we could have curbed health care cost and improved quality/ However the pols are interested in power and not solutions.

Well it's less about being sanguine about that possibility as it is about recognizing that it's the only proposition for addressing health care costs currently on the books.

But ultimately, it largely depends on the IPAB and whether or not it's implemented.

I don't think Obamacare, in and of itself, is going to solve the problem. That's probably going to require a single payer system. That is, if we ever decide we want to stop paying twice as much for health care per capita for generally average outcomes.

Having the bills paid by a third party is part of the reason for the skyrocketing costs.

    No tort reform? Fail

No plan for increasing the supply of providers? Fail. How will that lower costs? Let's see, increase demand and keep demand constant...what happens? Don't tell me, I know this one...

I would think the available evidence suggests tort reform would have a negligible effect on health care costs.

Agree that the supply of providers needs to be expanded.

So basically Obamacare isn't going to do anything to affect skyrocketing costs.

You just keep right on "guessing," PF13. It's what you do best. After all, it requires no facts and no truths. No links, no back-up. No proof, no evidence. No nothing.

    Means about as much, too.

They aren't breaking out how much tort costs are built into those medical innovations there.

Physician malpractice is just a small part of it. The liability cost built into equipment, devices, medications and hospital care is not insignificant.

Good points, if you manufacture equipment you have to factor Tort as an overhead cost, there is Tort insurance for every company making a drug or piece of Medical equipment. When you go to a Hospital they have their own Malpractice Insurance in addition to the Malpractice Insurance carried by all the physicians.

There is a reason the Trial Lawyers donate so heavily to politicans.
