In the heat of the moment yesterday, I felt like the Pats were on their heels through almost the entire game. I'm rewatching the game right now under somewhat cooler conditions and it doesn't seem that way at all. I am now watching the Chargers score their first TD with 7:30 remaining in the first quarter, and to this point it seems like the Pats have been winning most of the battles in the trenches.

Brady has been off (overthrowing the open receiver in the end zone for example) which has hurt. But there have been some bad non-calls (pass interference that should have been called that the announcers even commented on) and other officiating errors that hurt the Pats. The Chargers were only able to score their first TD with a short field (starting on the 50) and the benefit of the questionable overturn of the Gates fumble that was forced by Hobbs on the 2 yard line.

Anyway, this is a closely contested game by opponents of equal skill. Not a game that the Pats were somehow able to win by flukes and miracles.

I was so nervous yesterday that everytime they gained a yard I was thinking "we're doomed!"

it was more of a game the pats tried to piss away but the chargers tried to piss away even more, in the end my chargers just didn't have the mental toughness to win

it's cause LT is a great rb and the line has been playing pretty good this year, LT is just going to get his yards.

honestly right after the game i said marty wasn't the reason for the loss, but if you blame mental mistakes on the HC , then i don't see any way he survives that debacle.

you're a red sox fan right? you know about all that curse garbage and how you broke it, i think some feel the guy is literally cursed.

i do know aj smith wanted him fired after last season, and aj smith is usually right on in his draft picks and in his front office moves.

Yes, that is about right.... Until the end when the Pats stepped up and said enough is enough.

As for LT breaking some runs.... There was some great blocking on the left side of the chargers formation. One of the runs they had a TE in motion who came over and made a great block on TBC.... Seymour missed the stop by a split second as LT ran by for about 10. On another run Sanders came around the outside and had a shot at LT but the guy is so damned good he just blew by Sanders, even though Sanders had done well to get in position. That one went for about 15.

The Pats did prevent LT from breaking any big ones, to their credit. And that rookie who was on Seymour played a great game.

oh sorry, i didn't think you dominated the edges, the inside, yes , i think for the most part you did dominate that

what i noticed about the pats is, they can be run on on the edges, they're not too hard to contain, i think your run D's strength is up the middle.

I didn't say the Pats dominated.... I said they were winning most of the battles. And when I say that, I am also talking about the offensive line play.

yeah we all love marcus mcneill, he was impressive. i think what you said sums it up, after all the mistakes and mccree fumbling the int, i think brady just said hey i've been given more than a second chance, it's time to step up and deliver dammit

and that's why brady's one of the greatest, he had a bad game, but he still showed up late.

i didn't understand a lot of the talk last night. when i saw the game live i didn't see SD doiminate the line on both sides of the ball. The big differences were SD making big plays offensively (NE didn't really make any until the 4th quarter) and SD dropping passes. I assume it had to do with the fact that NE usually wins the field position battle and they lost it so horribly last night. also Brady was off for most of the game and we're used to "as brady goes, so go the patriots."

i think a lot of the talk of SD dominating the game is a major slight to the defense, which played really well.

yeah i really do agree with that, when you think of the field position that the pats O gave the pats D to deal with, man, it's amazing sd could only score 14 in the first half, that really is a credit to the pats defense.

I was seeing shades of the Miami came at that point, the won where we were shut out 21-0. In that game kept getting terrible field position and Miami was getting good field position.

most (many?) sox fans aren't as irrational and stupid as the media likes to make us out to be. I never believed in curses, but I do believe in bad coaching. Bad coaches leave pedro in when the entire world knows he got in his 7 innings and he's done. bad coaches waste timeouts and go for it on 4th and 11.

speaking of, did any other pats fans get excited (or chargers fans depressed) when Marty had the headset on in the 4th quarter? talk about a confidence boost.

maybe i was confident because i didn't see the miami game. sometimes when you have to miss a game it works out for the better :)
