Another thread on this. Great.

It's the second pick of the second round, not just "a second rounder" and by all accounts there was little to no market out there other than a possible 3 way deal that seemed unlikely to actually take place.

I keep hearing that there was "no market", but really, there's still, what, 7 weeks until the draft? And the reports of the Buccaneers offering more certainly doesn't help that line of arguing.

And to everyone complaining about another thread being posted on this topic, feel free to snipe at me with your slings and arrows, then post in another thread. No one is twisting your arm.

Hilarious that someone who posts a picture like that has the sheer hubris to talk about other people's over-inflated senses of self-worth. The hypocrisy is staggering.
As opposed to someone who decided to start their own thread not giving consideration to the fact that this issue has been discussed at length for the past 2-3 days?

Rant end.

They were offering more because they wanted Jay Cutler..

Ostensibly they didn't want to keep the 14m on the books so they could actually, you know, sign some players in FA.

Im very glad we got a second round pick for a guy that was going to be cut in sept if not for Brady's inj...

And there was no market..

Detroit and Tampa wanted in only because they might have had Jay Cutler

Chicago - NO

San Fran - No - were more interested in a aging Kurt Warner

Minn- Rather give a fourth for Sage Roesnfeilds

Carolina - Maybee for a peppers deal..

We needed to move Cassel now, we had to clear that money, if we did not franchise him, he would have walked for nothing this year a comp third next year...

Its over, and yes we have Tom Brady, who I would take over anybody in the nfl that is playing now... Nuff said , lets move on and fix the D...

you just named the market. tampa, detroit, carolina and kc. how is that no market?

look i am happy we didn't let cassel walk and got the high 2nd. but in all honesty we didn't take advantage of other possabilities that arose,.... 1 day later

Careful, some people don't believe you can say that Belichick/the Patriots mishandled a situation without being 1. an idiot or 2. a whiner.

There's plenty of info out there that suggests a better deal could have been made if the Patriots were just slightly more patient.

I certainly don't believe in any conspiracy theory, but I do believe the Patriots could have gotten more in return for Matt Cassel. That doesn't mean that BB or anyone in the front office is inept, just that I believe they handled this one situation far less that optimally.

Yeah, I can see what you mean on the first point. I'd hardly call Belichick inept, otherwise there wouldn't be three Lombardi trophies parked at Foxboro, but this deal seems to be terrible.

Cry me a river your'e starting to sound like a little whiner. Cassel for a second 'whatever', everybody on the planet knew he was gone . so go put that in your trade value chart and smoke it....

A better market may have developed or it may not have. We took the bird in the hand. Regarding the other "offer", I don't think there was one unless you think Denver was going to trade Cutler for Cassel straight up which I highly doubt. For that trade to happen we would have been adding to our end, I believe.

For the uptenth thousand time.. There was no Market for Matt Cassel.. Sorry, Denver joined the party to late.. Matt Cassel was a seventh round pick that was developed , and for not a freak inj to a HOF this is not even discussed, and we are talking hopefully Brady's 4th ring... We got the best we could for Matt Cassel, and hope he does well in KC. Just not against us..

Correction: Denver never joined the party in the first place.

That's why that trade never happened.

stop saying there was no market... tb was the market a 1st. and can people stop answering the question of this being a bad deal with. we still have tom brady. tom is awsome and the team is awsome. doesn't make the deal that went down good or bad. and yes tb was to late... whay couldn't we wait another 2 days?

No. Tampa Bay was willing to give up a first for Cutler. Not Cassel. Denver was never serious about trading Cassel for Cutler straight up (why would they, that's an awful trade).

Cassel was never getting us those kind of deals. No one wanted to give up a 1st for Cassel. Just Cutler.

Yes, because clearly, starting a thread, apparently an act consuming massive resources and possible only in the cases of the most malignant narcissism, is so much worse of a transgression than posting a snarky picture that illustrates in no uncertain terms the contemptible nature that inhabits so many people. Why bother with painless apathy, dignified disagreement or even, heaven forbid, a modicum of empathy, when being a jackass is so much easier? Starting a thread on an already discussed subject from a slightly different perspective must rank up there with running Ponzi schemes, child pornography and acts of genocide, given the rabid response.

You liberal.....

Oh Richter, you are such a VIP and the circumstances of you discovering the return of the trade so unique that your reaction deserves its own thread.

Just what we need, another thread from a guy who thinks BB turned down multiple offers of multiple first round picks to take a lesser offer.

We all hoped that Cassel would net more.

Try to understand that you can only take an offer that is on the table.

Try to understand that the deal had to be done early in FA to clear cap space. It isn't like there haven't been a zillion threads on that topic the last two months.

Well said, Sean me boy!

It's ALL about the market realities vs fanboy wet dreams. Timing is everything. Had the supposed 3 some trade really materialized, when would it have? Would the KC offer still be on the table or not? Only the alternatitve universe folks know for sure.

Me, I just hope we do better with our many 2nd round picks than the Bethels and Chads of yesteryear.

"Ponzi schemes, child pornography and acts of genocide" would be an awesome name for a band.

Is that supposed to be a pejorative? Not that it's true, but it would explain your previous response perfectly.

Actually I was hoping you would say "I'm am most certainly not". Then I could have a catharsis and say "well at least we agree on something.";)
