It's been over a year since the obamans were elected. It's time to be big boys and take and blame that comes their way now.

It's been a year, bud. I can just see us in 2017, obama still hasn't gotten unemployment under 9% and it will STILL be because Bush preceded him.

This is one of those coke or pepsi threads... this story was attributed to a previous Obama is asleep at the wheel thread... in reality it has nothing to do with homeland security, it has to do with a conference at GWU.. he was included as he was a psychiatrist trained to deal with responses in the event of a terrorist attack...

Obama has taken on a bigger recession than Reagan did and so far his plans have been more effective than Reagan's were. Will we get to 10.8% unemployment like we did under Reagan? Remains to be seen. Will the turnaround begin in less than three years? Remains to be seen. But, using history as precedent, it's too early to judge Obama's performance on the economy.

As far as the Fort Hood Terrorist goes, the crime happened under Obama's watch, so he's the only one who could have done something, but it's still interesting to know that this guy played the system quite effectively. It will be interesting to see what measures Obama puts in place to prevent something like this from happening again.

This is good news, when all the Bush Hating Media find out this guy worked for Bush they will really want to kill him, this makes everything easier for prosecuters a smart move on their part for getting this news out there.

It really isn't given the massive "stimulus" that has been spent in an attempt to create jobs. Jobs do tend to be a lagging indicator so things there will likely get somewhat better but I expect it will be slow and lacking (which is why I referenced 9%). And if he gets the squeaker's health care plan that will make employment worse - on the off chance he passes cap & tax (which I think is now extremely unlikely) that will make things worse again.

Regardless of how things are 1 or 2 years from now, my point is that he was elected over a year ago, whatever happens is now his. Including the fact that he still seems to think of this as a criminal act not a terrorist act and he and Casey still seem more concerned about diversity than the dead.

Amazing how all the same people who blamed Bush for the poor economy in 2001 are now saying it is too soon to blame Obama in 2009.

I don't know why we've looked at so many possible reasons for the attack. We should have known all along that it was Bush's fault

WTF are you talking about? Unemployment was around 4% in 2001! Everyone was swimming in money!

There's even a graph of it in this thread!

Well, gosh, if unemployment was only 4% in 2001 when Bush took office and less than a year after he's left office it's close to 10% - what does that tell you?

Unless you think this all happened in the last 10 months and eveything was all hunky-dory leading up to it.

edited to add: Jeez, did you even read your own article?

While the determination of the official ending date for the recession is of interest to economic historians, it is likely to bring little comfort to the nation's unemployed. The unemployment rate hit a nine-year high of 6.4% in June (2002).

Were you even on this board in 2001? Did this board exist? How can you possibly pretend Patters was saying anything remotely like that in 2001?

Clever of you to try and pass that lazy assertion off. Almost no one questioned the economy during the Bush League (though many people knew it was a fake economy). In fact, when Iraq was a disaster, Bush couldn't get any appointments passed, conservatives always fell back on "the economy" as his 1 (one) saving grace.

It was also ~4% when the dems took control of congress and we know what has happened since then. ;)
