The top free agent pass rushers included this group:

Cliff Avril (Detroit)
Charles Johnson (Carolina) - signed six year $72mm with Carolina
Manny Lawson (San Fran)
Ray Edwards (Minny) - signed with Atlanta
Matt Roth (Cleveland)
Mathias Kiwanuka (NYG) - re-signed with NYG
Jason Babin (Tenn) - re-signed with Tennessee

So:

Avril, Lawson, and Roth still available.

Babin signed with Philly.

Avril is young and has a bright future in my eyes.

Osi should be open for trade talks.

Cliff Avril is a restricted free agent, would cost a first rounder to sign.

I want Osi but what type of draft pick would they have to give up?I think the bridges are burned when it comes to Osi and the giants. He wants out.

Why are four-year & five-year vets listed as RFA's?
Didn't the new deal make them unrestricted?

Of this list, Roth is probably the most likely to make an immediate impact - just based on the fact that he's played in a similar defense.

Not to say any of the others wouldn't be totally welcome additions though!

The Eagles signed Jason Babin, not Tenn. I think this is the year Manny Lawson is finally far enough removed from his ACL surgery that he'll be what he looked like he might be before he injured the knee. He has freakish talent, and is still only 27. I do like that Roth played in this D before, but I'm thinking upside here, and I think Lawson would be the move. What a great young talent to add to this young talented team IMHO.

Lawson is exceptional in coverage. He's a good pressure guy, too, but isn't exactly a sack artist. Still, considering how much better our secondary is than SF's, I expect he could accrue a few more of those elusive "tackles of the quarterback."

Of all the players on the market, Lawson seems to be the most athletic and the most under-appreciated. He has the side, speed, and smarts to do well in our defense, and I'd love to see him play opposite Cunningham, with Nink and Moore rotating in depending on down and distance, etc.

I actually have high hopes for Carter, for what it's worth. He and Cunningham could provide long-term answers.

I'm a fan of manny lawson. I'd give him a shot.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

I think that Belichick can see the need for help at OLB, having just cut a starter from last year.
I might mention that Banta-Cain played far more reps than anyone other OLB in 2010.

We 2 OK DE/OLB types in Ninkovich and Moore. I think that Belichick is fine with them in that role. Which leave Cunningham. That's all there is folks.

Well, we have Carter and Murrell using up locker space at the moment. Carter seems destined for the Practice Squad (which is fine) and Murrell for the waiver wire (he's been there before).

lets face it big name pass rushers cost 10+ million so lets hope Jermaine Cunningham and Rob Ninkovich can get it done
