With the new CBA now completed (woohoo!), free agency will soon commence. It is going to be EXTREMELY active, being compressed into 10 days from what typically lasts a month. Not only are many teams already over the cap (resulting in lots of decent free agents this year), but many other teams must spend tens of millions to meet minimum spending numbers per requirements of the new CBA (with an acknowledgement that they have a few years to do this). The first few days of free agency will be critical. Some teams like Green Bay may need to do many deals in a short time just to keep some of their key players.

Some teams that need to clear cap room are the Cowboys, Saints, Steelers, and Jets, while the Bills, Bengals, and Chiefs among others have over 30 million to spend!

Haven't heard this mentioned. How about Pat Williams as a back-up NT. As old as he is I'd think he wants to go for a ring and not be on a crappy Vikes squad. He can still play useful minutes and could start a few games if needed (lets pray not).

I like that thought. He can definitely still play, too. We could even have packages in the 3-4 where Vince shifts to DE and Williams plays NT.

Who are your free agent binkies?

2011 NFL Free Agents

Here's a list of guys I'd be interested in kicking the tires on. I'm not advocating that the Pats break the bank for any free agent. This is just what I see as a somewhat realistic list of guys that I think could improve the team talent-wise.

QB - all set
WR - Santonio Holmes (NYJ), Steve Breaston (ARI)
TE - Kevin Boss (NYG)
OT - Matt Light (NE)
OG - Carl Nicks (NO), Darren Colledge (GB) David Baas (SF)
OC - Ryan Kalil (CAR), Olin Kruetz (CHI)
DE - Cullen Jenkins (GB) Shaun Ellis (NYJ) Marcus Spears (DAL)
NT - Alan Branch (ARI)
LB - Matt Roth (CLE) Kieth Bullock (NYG)
CB - Kyle Arrington (NE)
S - Eric Weddle (SD)

Re: Who are your free agent binkies?

Obviously, I am presuming Arrington and Green-Ellis will sign.

My "binkies" are
Carl Nicks
Tracy White
Gerard Warren
any linebacker

Re: Who are your free agent binkies?

Kiwi and either Weddle, Huff, or Mikell. And Mankins long-term. And Chad Johnson.

Re: Who are your free agent binkies?

Manny Lawson
Matt Roth
Harvey Dahl (OG)
Robert Gallery (OG)
Mathias Kiwanuka (not gonna happen)
Santonio Holmes (definitely not gonna happen)

I thought this was a pretty good (though not exhaustive) write-up of this year's free agent crop from Bill Barnwell: Bill Barnwell's NFL free-agency preview - Grantland

Gerard Warren??
Tracy White????

As for my binkies, I include amoung them:
FS Eric Weddle, the best FS avail. when Bill drafted Stomper Meriweather instead;
FB/RB Jason Snelling, whom Bill should've drafted in '07 instead of Justise Hairston;
RG/RT Justin Blalock;
C/G David Baas;
Any DE/OLB with a pulse, incl. Central Arkansas alum (same as Markell Carter) Jacob Ford,
whom Bill should've drafted in '07 instead of Justin Rogers.

There are lots of decent wide receivers in free agency. I wonder if Bill can manage to sign a veteran wide receiver for cheap money.

... either Weddle, Huff, or Mikell.

Are you assuming Dowling sticks at CB? Otherwise this makes little sense.

Reggie Bush to Miami.
Haynesworth to NE!

Since the major news seems to get their own threads, I'll just update this thread here with all the minor moves so there is at least some tracking on here of everything else going on in the league which isn't deserving of its own thread.
