Guys,

This is hypothetical and I know it has about 0% chance of happening, I'm just curious.

If a team franchises a special teams player is that number based on his real position or his "fake" position. "Fake" is not the right word, but I can't think of another term for it right now.
For example, if Slater gets franchised is he a gunner or a wide receiver. What if during the season he had 8 to 16 snaps at wide receiver either in "junk" time or because of injury?

Where is the line, 20 snaps? 30 snaps?

Who decides, the NFL or the NFLPA - or some judge?

And, if it exists, does the special teamer designation include returners that do not have major roles elsewhere? I'm thinking Devin Hester. Who decides that - was Amendola included in that number? Or Blount last year?

Yeah, it is a long off season and wondering about Slater's franchise number ... well ... let's just say I have a lot of time.

Ian, I have no idea what forum this should be in. None seemed to be a good fit.

There is no ST designation, for some inexplicable reason.

Therefore, if you were going to tag Slater, you'd have to tag him as a WR.

If a team tries to mis-tag a player—see Jimmy Graham—the player can file a complaint with an arbitrator.
