Let's watch to see if Fox follows up on this story. You'll notice the embedded video of the story is dark.

Regardless, this is a bit of a black eye.

FOX EXCLUSIVE: Al Qaeda Leader Dined at the Pentagon Just Months After 9/11

EXCLUSIVE: Al Qaeda Leader Dined at the Pentagon Just Months After 9/11 - FoxNews.com

Anwar Al-Awlaki may be the first American on the CIA's kill or capture list, but he was also a lunch guest of military brass at the Pentagon within months of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks, Fox News has learned.

Documents exclusively obtained by Fox News, including an FBI interview conducted after the Fort Hood shooting in November 2009, state that Awlaki was taken to the Pentagon as part of the military’s outreach to the Muslim community in the immediate aftermath of the attacks.

    ...

Collins said he believed the event was sponsored by the office of the Secretary of Defense. A spokeswoman there said she would look into it and get back to Fox News.

A former high-ranking FBI agent told Fox News that at the time Awlaki went to lunch at the Pentagon, there was tremendous "arrogance" about the vetting process at the Pentagon.

"They vetted people politically and showed indifference toward security and intelligence advice of others," the former agent said.

Curious... Why is the office of the SoD conducting an outreach program a few weeks after 9/11? Is it Rumsfeld's role to mend fences and host luncheons out one side of his mouth, and propagate fear, fraud, vengeance and hostility out the other? Very strange.

Stay tuned for all of the Bush/Rumsfield/Cheney/draft dodging neocon apologists.. at least he did not sleep with their wives... or the prerequisite deflection about what Clinton did or did not do...

The tale begins to unravel... there is always more to the picture than meets the eye...

Yeah the vain attempt to couch extremist as 'moderate' muslims was a mojor failing of the Bush administration. They should have challenged Imam's to denounce terrorist attacks and any who didn't should be denounced themselves instead being invited to dinner and having their butts kissed.

You can count on one hand the number of American Muslims that have denounced "terrorism" or the f-cking smelly savages that attacked America on 9/11.

So you believe this report from FauxNews? But when it's critical of a democrat, they are lying? What a hypocrite.

Should of just put a bullet in his head when he was there, Whitehouse most likely has a good cleaning service.

Better yet, why didn't they report it back in 2001/2002 when it happened?

Interesting story, but if you consider the details, it all makes sense.

9/11 happens, the government feels it needs the help of muslims, and look for some who have influence in the community. They find this guy, who's born in NM, and is condemning the attacks to his followers. Sounds like a guy who might help right? Afterall, he's American born too.

Apparently though, he had ties to some of the hijackers. What's messed up, is that the guy was interviewed by the FBI 4 times after 9/11, because of those ties, but the Pentagon didn't know because....

Remember, this is right after 9/11. Lot's of naivate in the air.

I find it odd that Pentagon and Langley officials have such consistent, social contact with AQ figures both before and after the attacks.

What makes such an "up and coming, moderate" Muslim community leader go so radical so quickly?

I think you should read the article from start to finish.

Not only have I read the article from start to finish, but also the CBS offering on the same subject.

I question the numerous CIA/Pentagon/AQ interactions both before and after the attacks, and I question that he was any "up and coming" moderate.

Good catch RW apparently Jamie Gorelick's wall of separation between the DOD CIA and FBI bit us again.

Ah yes. I knew it was due any hour. The obligatory "Gorelick Wall" fall-back position.

On the part of the moderator? I'll agree.

Especially considering the "Gorelick Wall" claim is a myth conjured up by Shrub apologists (such as Ashcroft when called to testify) in an effort to deflect from profound malfeasance of ignoring plain-as-day pre-9/11 warnings. There was no "Wall," and the system in place was fully functional for stopping an attack like this.

The Gorelick theory had absolutely nothing to do with Dave Frasca burying his own FBI's surveillance report, better known as the Phoenix Memo. Gorelick had nothing to do with 9 foreign intelligence entities warning the Bush Administration of an imminent attack throughout the summer of 2001.
