The intent of the poll --

    http://www.patsfans.com/new-england-patriots/messageboard/12/248228-forum-changes-consider.html

-- was not to add layers of rules to the forum, but to see if we can work as a community and simply respect each other:

    (1) Clearly, most people would like some limits on the number of new threads per day. Among those who said there should be limits are at least 5 diehard conservatives. Do we need a rule or can we simply do our best to limit our new threads to 3 per day?

    (2) The question on merging more threads will simply guide FTW and me to be a little more free with merging threads.

    (3) The question on personal attacks will guide us in being a more aggressive in deleting posts or closing threads that have personal attacks. If you make a personal attack, keep in mind that post may very well be deleted.

    (4) The question on stereotyping tells me we should largely continue as is, but if you make stereotypes we reserve the right to take action.

    (5) The question on profanity tells me we should continue as is, but please be sensitive to fact that some people don't like it and this forum may from time to time attract kids.

If people don't cooperate, then we'll have some new rules, and the first new rule we're likely to have will restrict the number of new threads per day to three. But, hopefully we can simply try to be a little more respectful.

Great. Now can add keel-hauling for the religious bigots who show their ugly faces from time to time???

Frankly, Fog, the generalizations made about your religion as just as offensive to you as are the generalizations made about gays to me. I'm 100% for cracking down on stereotypes, but that would include all stereotypes, not just the ones that offend you. That said, most people here seem to think that we should not crack down on stereotypes much more than we are doing now.

    Sure!

Along with any mention of gods, prophesy, and morality...that'll be fine.

Aw, shucks. I was getting my crucifixion tools all sharpened up, booked some tickets to the Colosseum to see lions feeding on bigots; even got an Iranian judge to agree to try the case(s) with free air fare to Tehran. :(

Thus spaketh the alien from Wistah, Nebulion, Ajaz Galaxy.

Dude, this is America we're talking about. You may cringe at the Freedom of Religion clause in the First Amendment, but either get with the program or move to China or N. Korea; they'd love to "have" you there. :D

The same cringe is for most of us when a child is strip searched by strangers in a school setting over ibuprofen.. once again the constitution is not situational and has more than one amendment.

... but when you deny the first paragraph of the first amendment only bad things can follow. Deny people their right to worship God as they please and you will never have peace.

Freedom of Religion also means freedom from others' religions. Just like the Constitution in general: one's rights end when they impinge on others' rights. And that includes insulting and slandering gays based on the philosophy of your religion.

Sexual acts are NOT a religion; they are a willful practice of bodily functions. Is drinking beer or milk a "religion"? No. Is hitting on young under age girls or boys a "religion"?? No. Is robbing cars or houses a "religion"?? No, again.

It may come as a shock to today's generation but sex is NOT a religion. Instead, most religions have carefully considered and very specific ideas on what kinds of sex are considered normal and healthy, and what kinds are not.

Given today's experience, if 3 is the goal, we do need a rule.

    Please advise, Patters.

Is the intent to have a spam war?

I need to know, because that involves 3 minutes of work a dozen times a day, rather than 10 minutes of work 3 times a day.

My apparently mistaken understanding is that you wanted to apply the rule "the people" thought best. A slim majority preferred a 3-post/day limit to "leave it alone." A large majority preferred a 5-post/day limit OR 3-post/day limit.

The outcome seems to be, we've left it alone.

So my observation says we've got a half-dozen or so from Mr. Spam today, and I only notice b/c I'm home for the day. Looks like, as foggy says, nobody else is paying attention, and the spammers of the world are hereby encouraged to make the forum not worth bothering with.

    Is that the outcome here?

    Thanks, just gathering the info.

Despite your hysteria.. there has never been a denial, just an honest and open discussion about cults and megolomaniacs...
