This is interesting...

Arizona WR Larry Fitzgerald's deal includes a clause that prevents the Cardinals from slapping their franchise tag on him after season.

I want him but the Patriots are too cheap to pay him

if we come close to the Super Bowl but don't win ****, I definitely want him

While the Patriots football/business plan may indeed mean they do not believe it is a good value to pay whatever it is that Fitzgerald ends up making next year, I don't know if I would necessarily equate that to meaning that the organization is "cheap".

Did you check out the contract they gave to Mankins

Jets troll? Knowlegable fans know that the Pats have the highest paid NT and OG in the game, and a month ago had the highest paid QB.

I highly recommend you stop reading this thread, scroll to the top of the page, and click "Miguels Pages". Read the salaries some of these guys are receiving. I urge you to focus on names such as "Wilfork, Vince"; "Brady, Tom"; "Makins, Logan"; "Bodden, Leigh" among others.

I would certainly like to have that guy.

Or more likely: They know better than to give a WR a $60-70 million deal.

Under the new CBA there is a very tight range for salaries in the cap. There is no such thing as a cheap team at this point in time. The Pats have been spending right up to the cap, however they haven't mortgaged the future to make a big splash.

The issue is asset allocation and value for the position and cap space.

Larry Fitzgerald is staying with Arizona the rest of his career. He got the quarterback he wanted to play with in Kolb. They will be a strong quarterback-wide receiver combination. It takes more than a year to build major chemistry and Fitzgerald is far to loyal to leave Kolb hanging out there by himself. He is a throwback player in the sense. Larry Fitzgerald's best attribute is that he high points the football, Brady is so accurate that Fitzgerald would not be that great of a help. They need a receiver with more speed to further stretch the defense.
