    .

If a poster continuously stalks and pounces on another poster, increasingly ratcheting up the antagonism to the point where the average disinterested group member may not notice but the intended victim is given a clear challenge, what is the recourse for the one being personally attacked??

If the moderator(s) are either unaware or unsympathetic to the personal attacks intended by the instigator, what should they do??

GJA15 has continuously attacked me personally by calling me a "cultist". Then, when I did not respond to that, GJA15 published my real name here on several occasions. This is an act which alone is grounds for permanent banning on many discussion lists that exist. When I mentioned this on the list, GJA15 then switched his tactic and used the "cult" pejorative term for my faith in conjunction with a *real* cult, the murderous suicidal cult of Jim Jones, who is responsible for the deaths of some 900 people, including that of a U.S. Congressman.

Through it all, I have turned the other cheek, while giving fair warning to GJA15 that his attacks were not only below the belt, but also violations of the rules of this list: "Refrain from personal attacks", but he has scoffed at my attempts to keep this discussion list honorable and above board. He has chosen instead to escalate his personal attacks and insults to the point where if he were to do this on the street to somebody a legal restraining order would be easily obtainable.

So, what should be done?? Should we allow the personal attacks, the stalking, and the use of false statements to dominate patsfans political group, or not?? I would vote we do not allow this kind of despicable behavior to infiltrate and poison the atmosphere of a lively discussion board.

What say the rest of you??

"keep this discussion list honorable and above board" ?... the "use of false statements?" you had me in your corner until that point... i was entranced.... but then i snapped to, and remembered all your false statements and personal attacks.... it was like a bucket of ice water in the face while laying on the beach... ...

anyhow... tell you what, Fog... i'll still agree with you and promise to do my part... and i'm sure GJAJ will also, and most everyone ... if you're willing to negotiate a bit...

you leave the condemnation and theocracy out of the political forum and keep it in it's rightful forum.... and we can all form a little kangaroo court for shaming away the bile and personal attacks here in the Bush/Anti Bush League forum...

what do you say? bend a little bit? don't worry... we'll come over and visit you in the God forum when we need our dose...

seems like a good bit of middle ground, no?

Change the channel and stop whining. You sound like the Jedi fakrissakes.
You are not the kindest person to athiestic points of view, so you get no sympathy. You bait the whole board with your religious rants, and that's fine with me, but you invite criticism that way. Keep it up, though. I like it.
    Just my opinion.

You are a member of a cult. Just because you don't like the definition of the word doesn't mean you get to have it banned. If you don't want a reaction, quit probing for one.

    Holy sh-t!
I just saw Foggy Brain's drunken rant on the GW thread.
Fogbuster should be banned for that - no doubt. You are a complete lunatic piece of sh-t, Fogbuster. I will make a point of attacking every retarded post you post as often as possible. Your idiotic religion (pardon the redundancy) is hereby under attack by me.

The reason we have rules is because otherwise discussions devolve too often into all sorts of taunting that some people find offensive. To label someone as a star wars kid, cultist boy, frauders, etc. is to attempt bullying. It's sadistic to persist with these labels especially after someone expresses hurt or anger.

When insults evoke a strong reaction, a kind person should back off. If you derive a sadistic pleasure out of provoking a reaction and then complaining to the moderators about the reaction you provoked, it's childish and transparent. Although we invoke rules on only a tiny percent of posts, I think both FTW and I are aware of the various personalities in the forum, and agree on who the provocateurs are.

There's nothing wrong with criticizing beliefs, but nothing constructive comes out of attempts to demean or diminish someone. There's no way we can read every post or accurately evaluate every situation, but my general rule as of late has been to respond to complaints, except in cases where the attacks are obviously over the top.

I find Fog's politics as offensive as anyone's and have no admiration for the Reverend Moon or his so-called church, but Fog himself has every right to use his beliefs to present and defend his world view. Just because his beliefs are derived from a strict religious view does not mean they do not belong in this forum.

I do not mind so much being called a member of a "cult" -- Jesus is referred to in the Bible as the leader of the "sect of the Nazerene", so I am in good company.

What I object to is the persistent stalking and personal attacking, now including references to a truly crazed and demented person in the form of Jim Jones (whose last act before ordering the murder of 900 people was to appeal to the Soviet Union for recognition, an appeal that obviously was tossed in the garbage where it belonged).

The rules of the forum are very clear: Refrain from personal attacks. Period. No conditions on that, such as: "... but it's OK to attack a person holding a minority religious point of view; have at 'em". No, in fact the rule states the opposite: that people may not be attacked on the basis of their religion. So GJA15 has committed a clear and unequivocal violation of the forum rules and standards.

For what it's worth, you have my vote to be able to post there; seems silly you cannot.

But, in all honesty, it's littered with all kinds of porn, spam, and other foolishness that does not belong there or attract anybody, at least not many, nor often.

Some people are frauds pure and simple, there are those who continually post falsities and when confronted they have a baby tempertantrum.. from where I sit, there has been a lot of things thrown the table weather, lies about the immigration issue, claiming that hollywood folks take helicopters to go shopping, the Al Gore SUV caravan( it is the secret service oh holy one).

I have also called him a cultist, which he does not deny.. I have not stalked him, I merely try to keep him honest and call him on his falsities.. I do seek out his outrageous posts as I do others, because more often than not they are lies that he finds on the internet. He chooses to be an easy mark, when asked to verify his lies he often reverts into infantile tantrumming behavior.. I am going to do such and such..

He has physically threatened me and others on this board, he has said somethings that I would not expect from a man of the cloth. This is what it is the internet, not real.. he has divulged so much of his own personal life he becomes an easy target. I have encouraged him to go over to the religious forum, however he has chosen to stay here and pontificate his beliefs to many of us who believe he should do not belong on this forum.

BTW playing the victim is a poor role for a man of the cloth, maybe you have dreams of being martyred.. does not elicit any sympathy from me.

He's not a fraud, and you haven't listed any real lies, though he does seem to believe the worst rumors about people and causes we admire.

Well, obviously, he doesn't like you calling him that.

You have every right to follow him around and respond to or correct his posts.

This forum is not exclusive. That would be worst thing for a forum that seeks to bring together people with vastly different views. That's why I very often have a window open so I can see what's going on in here. I think it's an interesting social experiment that we have such vastly divergent views in this forum. How often do you think that people like Fog, Harry Boy, Terry Glenn is a Cowgirl, and all the rest of us get together and hash out issues? We have wildly divergent world views, and that's the way it should be. But, we need to be sensitive to people. I don't think you'd call a fat person 'fat' to his face, would you call someone who you think is a member of a cult, 'cult boy' to his face. I assume you'd be more sensitive than that.

Fog's post was way out of line, but it was also out of character. He's been warned, so that's the end of that issue.

I think some "Depends" might work better.

But Harry's shining us all on: he doesn't have a toilet or an "upstairs". He uses an out house (!!! )

Sometimes you cannot see the forest through the trees:

    1. He claimed that Hollywood people take helicopters to go shopping, when called on this he came back with something else.
    2. He said that of the 200 million americans, 50 million were illegal, when confronted on this and shown Gov't Stats he went into another diatribe.
    3. When pointed out that Rev. Moon was a convicted felon, he went into another long thing about Vacaro.
    4. His weather reports are a poor semblance of Drudge.
    5. He claimed that in the 70's there was a prediction of an ice age, when asked to qualify he claimed some type of conspiracy theory.
6 He goes on and on about Gore, talking about his big carbon footprint, when I showed him he was wrong, he responded he did not know that. Then he goes on about the SUV's, he is driven around in SUV's because he gets secret service protection.
    7. Cultist is not a bad word, and his religion is considered a cult if you look it up.
    8. On and on.. it never ends.. perhaps I am intolerant and so much so, but his judgemental attitude and continual lies along with his response make him an easy mark.. calling me son in one of his first posts did not do much to enamor myself to him and his strange ways either.
