Joe Flacco (approximately $20M annually)
Dennis Pitta (approximately $6M annually)
Both are among the highest paid players at their positions, and I'm not sure if I've ever seen such a waste of money. To call either one average would be generous. Flacco is clearly a fraud who got hot once at the right time and will never sniff the same success again. That was evident even before he signed the contract, based on the other 99.9% of his career aside from his Super Bowl hot streak. Pitta, meanwhile, is a 1,000 yard receiver. He has just over 1,000 career yards, in four seasons.
I looked at teams that have a starting QB and best skill player, each with a minimum of a three year deal, and no rookie contracts. Granted, there are bad deals in here, but at least most of the players are pro-bowl caliber, or at least have been pro-bowl caliber in the recent past.
34M- Matt Stafford- Calvin Johnson
28M- Matt Ryan- Roddy White
27M- Jay Cutler- Brandon Marshall
27M- Aaron Rodgers- Jordy Nelson
27M- Drew Brees- Marques Colston
26M- Joe Flacco- Dennis Pitta
25M- Tony Romo- Jason Witten
24M- Eli Manning- Victor Cruz
24M- Carson Palmer- Larry Fitzgerald
23M- Philip Rivers- Antonio Gates
23M- Ben Roethlisberger- Antonio Brown
21M- Tom Brady- Rob Gronkowski
20M- Alex Smith- Dwayne Bowe
