Top US commander: Burning Quran endangers troops - Yahoo! News

I do not agree with the church's decision, but then again if they can burn the American Flag why can't we burn the Quran?

They have the right to burn the quran... but if our commanders with boots on the ground believe it may jeopardize our troops it should be reconsidered...

All this is is a extreme right publicity stunt, that is fueled by the islamaphobic rage of the Gellers of the world... what purpose does it serve, except for face time for this pastor.. will it change anything????

Has anybody said they can't burn the Quran?

Yet another example of people comparing ourselves to people we find despicable. Quite a bar we're setting for ourselves.

All the Quran burning will do is stir up "the savages" all over the world and you can bet they will try to slaughter our troops, and they will try to slaughter any American they can get their hands on.

It drives the Pigs nuts when America doesn't go crazy when they burn our flag the murdering bastards can't understand why we aren't like them.

If the church burns their book President Jug Ears had better start "Profiling" at all of our airports the very next day.

If a known Christian group burns the Quran, then that group is setting a stage for a religious war. The wars in Iraq & Afghanistan have never been about religion (for us) and that's a good thing.

I doubt many Americans want the war against terrorism to become a religious war...if they do, they're idiots.

The guy in Fl is being a jerk to get some attention sadly there will be people who die when there are riots over this.

Now there have been no riots and killings when muslims have destroyed churchs aroung the world and destroyed 'sacred' Cathoilc relics and Bibles were destroyed as part of the churchs being destroyed.

Perhaps you could link to some of the numerous stories of Catholic churches around the world which have been destroyed by Muslims? (And since you've previously informed me that anything which happened more than 100 years ago is "ancient history" and irrelevant, I am sure your articles will be much more recent.)

Sounds like there is an element out there that wants to take on Islam in general. They want a war between East and West, Christianity representing the West and Islam the East.

How about the Taliban destroying the ancient Buddha statues in Afghanistan in May 2001 despite the world's outcry against it?

Afghan Taliban Begin Destruction of Ancient Buddha Statues
While not a Catholic church, it's the same concept and more recent.

America had a couple of buildings destroyed by Muslims a few years ago, they slaughtered 3000 innocent human beings in two hours, the dead were people of all faiths, you don't need a link for that one if you do all you have to do is "Google 9/11"

That works, and it does, thank you.

Interesting article, too. It seems that the Afghans, themselves, much like the Americans here who are thinking the Koran burning is ignorance at it's worst, were totally against this destruction which was ordered by one man with a religious agenda who did not speak for all of Islam.

Truly, it IS the same concept - and the outcry and condemnation is conceptually similar as well.

Afghans, baffled at first by the decree and now its implementation, quietly and sadly condemned the destruction.

"Destroyed cities can be rehabilitated. But once the statues are gone, they can never be replaced," said a resident of Kabul.

"It is not helping the war-wounded country."

Taliban officials also privately said they were not happy with Omar's decree, which is seen as absolute law in more than 90 percent of the country under the militia's rule.

"It is causing big damage to our history," said a senior official, refusing to be named for fear of retribution from the hardline militia.

"The war had taken everything else. We had only these (monuments) which are now fading."

Another Taliban official added: "Personally I am against a brick of Afghanistan being destroyed. It is very sad."

Yes, I know, Harry. However hard it may be for you, please try to stick to the topic at hand and answer only the questions which were actaully asked and not throw in your same sorry 2cents worth regardless of how inane they are.

Just to make it easier on you - Catholic Church, destruction of Catholic Relics. Got that?

The American Left Wing Liberals "Love Affair" with Muslims and their Their Religion is one of the strangest things I have ever seen.

Islam stands for everything the American Liberal claims to be against, especially the Violence and the Abuse Of Women.

    Thank you, I stand corrected.

Although, to nit-pick, your original claim was muslims have destroyed churchs aroung the world and destroyed 'sacred' Cathoilc relics and Bibles were destroyed as part of the churchs being destroyed. and, while these cited incidents of violence are unspeakable, only one of them involved the "destruction" of a church or whatever "relics" were housed inside. Most churches don't house relics - so I'm unsure what you mean by the word. Statues, maybe?

    1. vandalized after a dispute between a specific christian and a specific muslim

    2. occurred over a land dispute at a construction site.

    3. "some damage" occurred to the church

    4. Yes, people were killed - but there were people from both sides both doing the fighting and the dying. And there was damage to several homes as well as to several churches in the ensuing riot,

    5. The damage to the churches in question was "minor."

    6. Nothing at all about an attack on a church - and both Christians and Muslims were attacked. - Muslim extremists who are members of the Islamic Defenders Front recently attacked 200 moderate Christians and Muslims who protested for religious freedom in the Indonesian capital, threatening the protestors with death and attacking them with machetes and sticks.

    7. This is the only article you've cited where a church was actually "destroyed."

It's only words, I know, but words are important. If you say one thing, you can't back it up by referencing a completely different thing because people can't "guess" what you really mean...they can only go by what you really say. In this case, as in most other cases, you say one thing and then try to explain it away by offering evidence of something entirely different.

Saw this over the weekend, and much like the Mosque issue, just cuz you can, does it mean you should? I think this is beyond stupid. It also points to why I'm a person of faith, but not a person of the church. Why any "man of the cloth" would want to do something like this, is beyond me.

Same thing I thought of at first. Unfortunately, that is probably exactly what will happen down in the bowels of America. There are plenty of fringe lunatics who fit one category or another. This POS will undoubtedly end up making a living off this somehow. I'm not at all surprised that a "man of the cloth" is doing this, though. They tend to be lesser, and much more useless people than most in my experience (but I can't prove it).

When I think of destruction, Islam and Catholic churches I think of the destruction of hundreds or thousands of lives by Catholic priests, too.

    -----------------

Mrs, there have definitely been regular occurrences of Muslim extremists destroying Catholic / Christian churches, as well as destroying Hindu temples.

(and Hindu extremists have also destroyed Christian churches)

    Religious extremists are lovely people.

You don't have to go back that far, they did some album burning over the Dixie Chicks Comments about GWB,"we don't want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas" ...

Free the Dixie Three | Music | The Guardian

The right loves freedom of speech, so much so its leaders (Glenn Beck et al) do not even allow signs at their gatherings...

Just the concept of burning books evokes some many distasteful ( to say the least) images throughout history that it should be avoided. Are they that afraid of 'them' that there aren't other more benign ways of expressing their opinions?
