Re: First Writer Turns on Manning

Manning is having a harder time throwing to JAGs than he did Harrison. Big deal.

If Manning had been playing with these guys all season that would be one thing. Shaking up the recieving corps midseason, especially in that offense, has an impact. He needs time to gel.

Piling on. He's doing his job. He can't help that VETERANS, like CLARK, WAYNE, MOOREHEAD, continue to drop balls. Not giving PM a pass, he has made some poor decisions. However, they guy is doing what he needs to do to get his team in position to win. Team effort boys.

The media... what a study it is, to watch the media horde annoint and dethrone heroes based on just about nothing.

Brady is the same player he was last year, but he's got a receiving corp for the history books. Suddenly HE's the best of all time. And the former best of all time is without his best receiver, his D is depleted, and now his picks and his decision making are being questioned. Utter BS.

Manning is as good as he ever has been-- not as good as the Big Heads have asserted in the past, and not as bad as their prepared to paint him now. And Brady is and has always been more deserving of respect than he received in the past, but is not as untouchable as the media will make him out in the coming weeks.

    Perspective!

Great post! The media just absolutely sucks.

It's neither as good or bad as it seems. That's a universal truth.

Don't want to be a Manning apologist...however...this author neglects to mention that the the Colts started the year using a rookie at starting tackle. For this reason alone, Manning is getting rid of the ball faster on shorter routes.( I have read at least 3 articles stating such). The result is less airtime. Whoopdie woo!

Re: First Writer Turns on Manning

The big deal is that other QBs have to throw to JAGs every week. Other QBs have to deal with injuries to their WRs every week.

My problem is that the Colts and Peyton choose a high-risk system and are simply suffering the consequences, yet people want to excuse them for it. They choose to focus on timing patterns and adjustments which require familiarity between the QB and WRs. No one is making them use a system where guys have a more difficult time standing in. They benefit from this system when healthy but suffer when hurt. Sounds like a trade off to me.

If Peyton has no chemistry/timing/whatever with Moorehead then it's his fault for not establishing it. This is the guy's fifth year there. Maybe instead of throwing a hundred passes to Harrison every day he should have spent some time acclimating himself to the back-ups. Injuries are a part of the NFL and you don't get excused for choosing to not prepare for them.

If the argument is that he doesn't have any good back-ups, then once again that isn't an excuse. His team has failed to properly build itself. NE could lose Moss and Stallworth and would still have Welker, Gaffney, Washington, and Jackson (and maybe Troy Brown would come off IR). Heck, Reche Caldwell was available this past offseason. Since Peyton is such a great QB he should be able to take lesser guys and make them better.

I still think Peyton is the second best QB in the league and a first-ballot lock, but it's silly to just excuse him because he's dealing with injuries to his WRs for the first time in his career. I also think it's silly to judge him based on two games.

The former best of all time retired some time ago. Don't even try to put Peyton Manning in the same class as Joe Montana.

Manning didn't beat the Patriots nor the Chargers. As for the Chiefs, Brodie Croyle started his first game ever in the NFL yet the Colts barely beat the depleted Chiefs.

Re: First Writer Turns on Manning

Did you even read the article in question? Nope, I'm bet you didn't. Why bother when presented with another gleeful opportunity to knee jerk out - "the media sucks!" (BTW, get your bashing correctly worded to sound more wicked smaht - media is plural, so it would be "the media just absolutely suck." Don't you feel better now :p )

There's crappy work and good work in every industry - that's a universal truth. So why not employ some of your very own logic - "It's neither as good or bad as it seems," before getting hysterical again about the alleged shortcomings of the entire media medium, huh? PERSPECTIVE, isn't that what you just said you admire?

Wow, a little defensive for some reason, aren't we?

Ron Borges, is that you? Oh wait -- I don't think Borges is a member of the media any more after he was summarily "retired" from the Globe. :D

Re: First Writer Turns on Manning

If we had used this logic with Brady last season, would you have listened? Don't get me wrong, Manning is easily the 2nd best QB in the league, and no one is even sniffing the league that he and Brady are in. But so far, Brady has proven he can do more with less than Manning.

My friend, take a valium, or some other drug of your choosing. For your information, I did read the article in question. Peyton, be a winner again! Peyton grab your teammates by the scruffs of their necks and MAKE them listen! This is TROUBLING!!!

There's even mention of his body language! THAT sounds familiar!

Sorry, I don't take the media seriously, and certainly not the sports media. What are you, a journalist or something? If so, get a thicker skin, you know, the kind you expect your subjects to have.

And thanks for the lesson, Teachy McGrammar. If there's one place I always like to make sure grammar, spelling and sentence structure is impeccable, it's an internet messageboard devoted to football.

Re: First Writer Turns on Manning

I hate to admit it, but I lean towards HBM on this. PM is human. He was throwing to one of the best receiving corps in history, and now has guys that couldn't start for most teams. How can he produce?

You know, as much as I've loved Brady over the year, I really truly only now get how incredible it was that he won 3 SBs with such a sorry WR corp. On the flip side, I'm sorry that he had to wait 7 years to show what he can be WITH high level receivers. I feel cheated, if that makes sense.

You're so right! I mean Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark couldn't start for most teams. Don't forget about Joseph Addai either.

Re: First Writer Turns on Manning

It's amazing to me that Peyton is 9th in AFC passer rating (16th in the NFL). That's unbelievable.
