On a semi-related note, Jim Donaldson reminisces about some of the good old days with some interesting stories about Clive Rush and Ron Meyer.

Jim Donaldson: Remembering your father’s Patriots | New England Patriots | projo.com | The Providence Journal

While talking one summer afternoon after practice about his days as coach at Southern Methodist, Meyer was pressed about how much he paid the highly-recruited Eric ****erson to play for the Mustangs.

And was it, a certain scribe from Providence playfully inquired, more than he was getting paid in the NFL?

“Well, yes, we did give him some cash occasionally,” Meyer finally admitted, in his high-pitched twang. “But what you have to remember is, the poor kid didn’t have any money to put gas in the car that Texas A&M gave him!”
