I think BB knows when to kill the team in the press and when to lighten up the reigns. He knew this was a bad loss, and the press was going to be out for blood this week. So he decided let up on the team, and have a rah rah (well as rah, rahh as BB gets) type of statement. Usually when they win, he puts a negative press statement out, to kee the team focused and not too fulll of themselves, I think he felt it best this week, to give the team a littl pick me up.

    Oh, Felger.

Where in that quote did Belichick say he was satisfied with 9-4 ??? He said a lot of teams would be happy to be 9-4 . . . and given that 9-4 is tied for the 5th/6th best record in the league, I would say he's right.

Felger is being silly and using baseball stats to address an NFL season. The 72 Dolphins were 7 games over 500 after the regular season if memory serves.

Is anything Felger says really worthy of a thread? It's like having a thread because a baby says "goo goo".

Felger is not driven by his love of the pats, he is driven by the ratings only the ratings and what he needs to do keep them up. He is in a very competitive time slot.

BB is never truly satisfied. The guy maintains the same demeanor whether we win or lose.

    I like Mike Felger.

I thought he made a good point. That's not how Belichick usually speaks.

I've been bothered about the stuff lately where people talk about the Patriots' record after Thanksgiving, like that their past performance is going to win them games. I'm not sure where that's coming from, but I was reminded of it when I heard that Belichick was talking about their 9-4 record.

They are playing poorly late in the season.

I don't see what's the problem with Felger ranting about it. Yeah, we're 9-4, but we're a paper tiger. We're squeeking by a lot of our games and I fear other teams are gonna catch on on how to defeat us.

Sure we're 9-4, sure a lot of teams like 49ers or Lions or Dolphins would love to be in our position. But is that enough? This team is always known to overachieve (eg 2001) so... it kinda befuddles me that BB seems to be satisfied with a 9-4 record at this point.

I really do hope it's just him trying to stop the bleeding in the locker room, I hope they do better next week (seriously, you can't do worse) but I am not holding my breath out for it.

BB's comments are very defeatist. He's basically saying "hey we aren't that great, but we're better than a lot of teams". He should have just left it alone.

I agree with what someone else said here a minute ago......Detroit Lions....Let me add Miami Doofins in there as well.......we have barely gotten by and lost to some weaker opponents. The Jets are not a better team in my honest opinion....nor are the Lions ...or doofins......but two of 3 beat us....and the 3rd (Lions) probably should have.........Houston is another opponent in the NFL for us....don't look at them as worse or better than us......it's another team we need to beat to move on....that is it.....And, after watching them play against Tenn (who is getting better by the week)...it is going to be very interesting......

Have you been living under a rock for the past 5 years? That seems more evident with every one of your ****-filled posts. I'm sick of it.

If BB had played into the sky is falling **** that is spewing on this board right now and in other outlets, the team would have an empty trophy case right now. And if BB had played into the Pats are going all the way after a win explosions, the team would have an empty trophy case right now.

He is the master of keeping everything in perspective. Just watching his post-game speeches to the team makes that clear.

exactly. We lost a game badly to a good defense .Why is so difficult to accept defeat to a team which played lights out defense ? Instead we start questioning what BB says in a press conf after a loss who has won 3 out of 5 SB's for us . Who would we rather have answering questions ? dungy - who keeps saying his defense needs to make some minor fixes to sort out the run defense ? parcells-constantly berating someone ?
BB isnt having a great season which goes without saying but its too much to question his methods . Iam pretty sure BB isnt very surprised by the result, being a defensive guy he knows how his team can be beaten on offense and when the other team does that he gives credit.
Actually he was praising the fins a lot more than usual of what he does constantly after a loss which shows how much he respects a good defense and also knows they wont face such pressure in every game.
Tip our caps to miami. they played well and won..not much more to dissect there.

Not to mention a team we ALWAYS play poorly in their stadium, no matter what our record may be.

Felger is a F-ing idiot. He was on The Herd today saying the loss was all about the Pats not signinig Branch and Givens. Never mind that Brady had the same results v. Miami when those two were here, and never mind the fact that the OL gave Brady zero time to throw.

Felger is fast becoming the worst.

I'm getting a headache so I didn't read all the posts but I'm going to say it anyway...

How about a rant on the media and fans? The past two years the Patriots lost many, more like too many good players, to other teams and a few to injuries. They're down to what many consider back-ups at best on other teams. In fact, I wonder how many players that are here and starting this year that weren't here last year would even be starting on teams like Detroit or SF. Yes they have Maroney, but seriously, If you look at todays roster 3 years ago you'd be shocked that they even had a chance to win the division.

All I hear lately is..."Is Belichick slipping?" "Whats going on with Brady?" and the like. When we should be saying " Dam, withthe players on this roster, I never thought a winning season could be possible". For the last 4 years the Patriots had a lot players on both sides of the ball who could step up in big games and make big time plays, now they only have a couple guys that can do that, so other teams can focus on just those guys knowing that whats left can't beat them.

I say we're lucky to even be in the position we're in and haven't fallen further. When the Patriots won their 3rd SB we were saying enjoy it while it lasts because all good things come to an end, well maybe it has and its time to rebuild, find good young talent through the draft and trades, and use the free agent pool to build a contender instead of just band aid solutions

I don't like what he said about Caldwell, who IMO has busted his ass all year. He's playing at the highest level he can play at and has been pretty consistent in playing at that level week in and week out.

Felger does make a valid point: You do get what you pay for. Caldwell is what he was expected to be. Every once in awhile you'll get a low end FA like Vrabel who blossoms into a stud, but it's rare. I certainly didn't expect that with Caldwell.

We all know the Pats had expected Branch to be there. We would have lost nothing in terms of WR production with Branch and Caldwell starting. It may have been ever better than it was with Branch and Givens.

Anyway, at this point the Branch-Givens debate is moot. They're gone. The current group needs some tweaking i.e. a fresh start for CJ next year and another stud to go along side him.
