Re: Felger:patriots Can Survive Without Hobbs

I do not understand why anyone would be unhappy about Hobb's departure. His skills as a kick returner will be missed - but I suspect we'll survive without him. As a corner - I have always thought AT BEST, he was mediocre, AT WORST, awful. Just awful. See yah later. I never liked the dancing midget. Buh-bye.

Re: Felger:patriots Can Survive Without Hobbs

Don't we have a thread on this topic? Look Hobbs was a serviceable NFL CB. But he'd get burned fairly often. I won't be missing seeing the highlights of those moments as the season progresses. The Pats got what they could, a coupe of 5ths, and freed up some cap space to make some moves down the road. Hobbs had become expendable, so it was a smart move to make. Besides Hobbs was not going to get PAID in New England. And listening to him talk he definitely wanted to get big $$, so why not dump him a year early and get what you can?

Given his age and performance last season, the answer would be yes.

Re: Felger:patriots Can Survive Without Hobbs

I don't think many people are thinking we can't survive without Hobbs. I thought he got more flak than he deserved, but that doesn't mean that A) he was a real good corner or B) he a replaceable part.

Felger tends to take statements like, "I think Hobbs is a serviceable corner and gets too much blame for the poor secondary play," and reads it as, "Hobbs is a great corner who is indispensable to this team."

    He's the classic extremist.

Re: Felger:patriots Can Survive Without Hobbs

This is vastly overstated. He simply was not a #1 cornerback. He is an above average #2, and would likely be an excellent nickel DB.

Re: Felger:patriots Can Survive Without Hobbs

"Trust ME"? Trust YOU Felger? Trust YOU? Or Trust BB.. the guy that traded him?

Look Hobbs is much better than most people give him credit for, and he will go on to have a pretty good career. But no one ever thought he was an untouchable.

One thing that's interesting (and I know the Eagles have a different defensive scheme, but still) is that the eagles now have both of our starting corners from 2007. Apparently they want to recreate the magic of our stifling secondary from those years :p

Re: Felger:patriots Can Survive Without Hobbs

I'd gladly take back Asante if he didn't cost 10M per. Hobbs, well the Eagles can keep him. ;) The Pats had a 16-0 regular season and it was really the OL's crap the bed performance that cost the Pats the Superbowl more than anything else.

Re: Felger:patriots Can Survive Without Hobbs

He would likely be an average to below average #2 and is well suited for the nickel. The problem is, Hobbitt thinks he's a #1. I will never understand the man-love for Hobbs.

Re: Felger:patriots Can Survive Without Hobbs

Sigh...I always find myself having to stick up for Hobbs. He was not a phenomenal CB however he was fairly reliable. The biggest problem we have had is injuries, and even when Hobbs got banged up he would play. I hope our new corners do not have the injury plague like our previous DB's

Maybe it's just people defending a player that you vastly underrate for no apparent reason.:confused2:

Re: Felger:patriots Can Survive Without Hobbs

Whew! Praise the Lord. Felger has annouced the Patriots can survive without Hobbs.

I was up all night, worried to fits that the Patriots organization was going to cease to exist without him. Nightmares of Robert Kraft announcing that the Patriots were going to stop playing football as without Hobbs there was really no reason to continue.

But now with Felger's assurances I can rest easy.

Any word on if Calvin can survive without Hobbs? Calvin & Hobbs were a great team, can't get a better comic strip than that.

Re: Felger:patriots Can Survive Without Hobbs

Yeah, he was always injured, just ask him, but those injuries didn't stop him from dancing after making a tackle 20 yards down field. We got real value for Ellis, 2 fifths for him? Hell, two fifths of vodka was almost too much.

He will make a very good nickle or maybe a forth back off the bench. He is making $2+ million and I hope he banked it because the Eagles do not over spend. If he holds out for a big money contract instead of dancing on a football field he could be dancing while saying "Welcome to Walmart".

Asante Samuel would say hello, but he's too busy sleeping on a pile of money next to two beautiful ladies :D

Re: Felger:patriots Can Survive Without Hobbs

Don't sell yourself short by saying never. You may eventually figure it our.

If not, well, lots of people don't understand the NFL very well, and take an overly simplistic view of player analysis. Don't let it bother you.

Re: Felger:patriots Can Survive Without Hobbs

OK, let me qualify that statement a little, they never over spend for their own people, and Ellis is not one of their own people.
