"Another player repeated the claim, an indication that perhaps the young pass-catchers aren’t sharp. On one missed pass, it appeared Brady overthrew Gronkowski.
Yet, the rookie tight end rounded off his route in the flat, changing the target and finishing at the wrong spot. Just one example of Branch’s request to “be at the right depth when Tom is ready to throw the ball."

Is that why Deion Branch came back?? So he could make excuses for his boy??
We all saw the play Deion. Tom Brady was under zero pressure, Mr. Gronk was wide open, is a huge target and it was on Gronk that Brady overthrew him because he rounded his route?? Come on.....
Brady's critics have always said he's a system QB. Maybe they're right after all. Apparently Brady throws to locations rather than receivers even when there is no need for a quick timing route because there is no pressure on him and no tight coverage on the receiver. He rounded his route?? How about the QB simply thowing the ball to the wide open receiver rather than throwing to a location? Or is that too much improv for Mr. Brady??

Whether or not Brady is a system QB, a receiver running a different route or rounding one off or going to the wrong spot will cause problems for any QB. We've seen it with Peyton and Brees and all of the top QBs.

He doesn't have a huge cannon for an arm, and relies on good mechanics in his throwing motion. So if he suddenly has to adjust mid-throw, the quality of the throws tends to be pretty clunky. The only QB I've seen who can consistently adjust mid-throw would be Big Ben. Even Peyton and Brees struggle when they can't step into throws and follow through properly.

In our offense, it's especially complicated because the routes change depending on the coverage. So if Brady and a receiver aren't seeing the same picture, it can cause serious issues. On certain patterns, Brady's throwing the ball while the receiver is breaking off the route, so if he's not going to the right spot, not sure what exactly you're expecting of him.

I'm sure these are all excuses though. Next we'll hear the argument about his hair or Giselle distracting him or whatever other nonsense this board tends to come up with after losses. Maybe we can even revive the old Matt Cassel over Brady threads.

Utter nonsense. "Mr." Brady? The mocking use of the "Mr." (typically a gesture of respect) should humiliate you. But, I know it won't.

YOU are the one mentioning Giselle and his hair. I'm talking about a specific play and the excuses being offered up as to why Brady, under no pressure, missed a wide open 6' 7" receiver in the flat.
I agree that there are timing routes where the receiver makes a hard cut and turns around to find the ball already there. This was not that type of play.
What's so troubling is a veteran like Brady is having difficulty with minor adjustments HE needs to make in order to make plays. It's scary that he can't improv a throw and complete a pass in the flat because the wide open receiver rounded his route?? Come on....
Brady has been very inconsistent for 2 years now even when his binky Randy was here. Enough with the "It's everyone elses fault" mantra.

    interesting dialog here........

you have someone bring up a valid point only to have 2 of the 'lovers' show up and provide useless posts other than to berate the original opinion.

nobody mentioned trading, yet you get one idiot reply with 'duuhhhh......its past the trading deadline, einstein' .... clearly showing that there is no football knowledge to reply with, so just be a homer.

the you have the other one latching onto 'mr. brady'

neither is capable of responding in any kind of tangible way, so they would prefer to proclaim their stupidity.

my answer is that brady has been on and off all year and that combined with a group of WR's who lack experience, and a game plan that does not work to generate any kind of consistent results, and you'll get days like this.

of course they will show well again next week and all will be well again. but even if they don't, the fact that they are playing the steelers will at least give them a reason for getting beat up.

days like sunday against the browns can happen with the best teams

to me the bottom line is that for each remaining game, it will not be a suprise if they win each of those games or lose them.

    welcome to parity

Yes, he throws to locations not receivers.

It has been no secret that the best way to defend against the NEP offense is to jam recievers at the line and mess with the timing.

It could also explain why a certain former NEP WR, who currently plays for the Titans, would give up on plays if he got beat off the line knowing that he would not be able to get to the right place at the right time and his QB was unlikely to improvise.

Our quarterback is Tom Brady, not Brett Favre. Each QB in the NFL has his strengths and weaknesses. Overall I think we did pretty good and got the best of the lot.

I just blame the Ref's, much easier and more consistent that way.

Obviously you've never played passing sport in your life. Hell, you've probably never even played Madden. The QB is not supposed to be thinking about HOW to throw the ball when he's back there. There isn't enough time, especially in the NFL. It has to be a throw he's made a million times, like instinct. It's hard to do that when you have a receiver who runs the same route ten different ways.

My thoughts on this is that was a bad throw on Brady. I think he'll even admit to that. Gronk was wide open.

Secondly, our receivers run option routes so it's not all timing based like Indy's offense.

    Disable Jersey

The Patriots run a double read system, as opposed to a timing offense. It requires both the quarterback and the receiver to make the right reads and get to the appropriate spot. If they aren't on the same page, it can look pretty bad. I'm sure that Brady flat-out misses sometimes, but you're basically bagging on Brady for doing what he's supposed to do.

Should've Brady hit Gronk on that throw, yup. I think any NFL QB should have the skill to improvise enough to throw to a receiver instead of a location if said location and receiver aren't that far apart if he has the time to adjust (which we will never know as he has that timer in his head telling him when to get rid of the ball), that said...

I will give this one to Brady due to the fact that when you play a sport you aren't thinking, you are reacting. If your reaction is to go to a location where the receiver should be and the receiver doesn't have an excuse of why he didn't get to that location (e.g. blocked out of his route) then that falls on the receiver.

Are you really going to pin this on Brady (3 time SB champ and one of the more accurate passers in the league) or on a rookie TE who hasn't shown to be that reliable in the passing game thus far?

    No Jersey Selected

    This.

Brady has been inconsistent all year long. I don't know if his soccer-star hair is getting in his eyes sometimes, or he's thinking about Gisele waiting for him at home, or something else perhaps; but combine that inconsistency with his standing like a statue in the pocket waiting for receivers with questionable separation skills (or even talent: hello, Bethel Tate) to get open, instead of maybe running to daylight sometimes - thereby helping to break down the coverage - added to an offensive game plan that lacks any creativity or improvisation whatsoever, and what we have here is, failure to execute, failure to score, failure to help a young defense before it collapses, failure to win.

Sunday is going to be an ugly embarrassment, as will be shown on my PTS post later this week.

No offense, but I consider wondering why our QB can't adjust the ball mid-flight to compensate for a guy out of position to be on the same level as the hair comments and the wife comments and the Cassel comments. I don't think I've seen you say anything in regards to those 3, but it's the same level of nonsense to take unnecessary shots at our QB.

When has this organization ever made excuses for Tom Brady? When has BB ever given Tom a free pass? When has Brady not stood up and taken the blame first? For you to say everyone's making excuses up for him is absolute nonsense.

As for what actually happened, who knows? Maybe they saw something different. Maybe it was a lazy route. Maybe Tom botched it. But you have to be really careful throwing around a word like "adjustments," because I do not think it means what you think it means.

The offense adjusts based on coverages and receivers adjust their routes and QBs adjust their throws. But if Tom's already throwing the ball and the guy's not where he's supposed to be, I don't know what exactly you expect him to do to adjust when the ball's already in the air.

You also have to realize QBs are always throwing to specific spots, not just to where the receiver should be but also to a specific part of the receiver so they can make the catch. Sometimes a low pass is a bad pass. But sometimes it is intentionally low to give a receiver the chance to catch the ball and get down before the defense can lay a big hit on him. Even one or two wrong steps can turn a catchable ball into an ugly pass.

As for the consistency issue, I don't even know where to begin with that considering he had one of his best seasons last year.

Bottom line is the entire offense is not clicking. QB, WR, RB, OL, TE, coaches, they all can do better. Or we can just blame Brady since that takes less thought and is easier to do.

Maybe he missed a pass, you want to trade him and bring someone else in? not sure of the reason for your thread, Mr Brady doesnt complete 100% of his passes and has been know to occasionally have a bad game. Last I knew he had the highest winning percentage of all active QB,s so are you looking for perfection?
