So happy basketball has started again... and although the season started 0-1, I am excited and hopeful for this basketball season. My biggest wish is that the players, coaches and GM all focus on whats important this season and not just getting paid.

Any early season thoughts on where the celtics are going to place and how the season is going to turn out?

dont mean to be a downer but imp the window is closed for the celtics. i dont think they have much of a chance to hang another banner. pierce is already out and hasnt played a game yet:rolleyes:. i learned the hard way with them not to expect them to be healthy enough to win a title. time to blow it up and start fresh. heres hoping i eat a tone of crow at the end of the year.

You took my complete response. Sorry kid but the Celtics arent going to do much this year in my opinion. Too old. As much as I hate to say it, the Heat will dismantle the C's tonite.

Looked like that to begin with. Not sure why the Celtics tried to play man to man with the Heat. They're nowhere near athletic enough (I don't think anybody in the league is) to do that. When they went into the 2-3 zone, that's when they slowed Miami's offense. The Celtics, in the end, will still be competitive this year, but I don't see them coming out of the second round. The Knicks will be pretty solid by the end of the year when they all learn how to play with each other (Amare has to make a big adjustment in his game with Chandler there, for one) and the Heat quietly went out and had themselves a very nice offseason. They drafted what has looked like gold so far in a rookie PG, retained Chalmers, cut the fat, and now have two seven footers on the roster. The Celtics are getting old and I wouldn't be surprised to see them blow the team up save for Rondo and a few others and make an attempt to lure Kevin Love next season.

Norris Cole looked very good last night Kontra, however the Heat's athleticism will only take them so far. Once again, the lack of any quality tall on the Heat list will be your undoing. If the Knicks add another piece they'll be close to overtaking the Heat IMO.

It was pleasing to see the Celtics fight it out and make a game of it the second. There may be some fight left in the old dogs yet.

Once again, we have two seven footers on staff. One of them was good before injury and the other is in his second year and showed a lot of progress vs. Dwight Howard in the preseason and in scrimmages. I'll take what we have this year over the likes of the Big Zombie and Erik Dampier.

You only have to convince yourself that you're going somewhere with your "collection" of seven footers Kontra. Quality > quantity.

I watch EVERY Heat game and even I don't know what we have in either of these two guys yet (three games into the season). Yet you watch maybe a handful of them the during entire season, and probably don't watch the scrimmages or the preseason and you know that these two guys, one of them in his second year, are just a collection of bum 7-footers? Tell me, oh wise one, how do you do it?

Ah, there's the return of the self entitled little **** attitude of yours. Welcome back. :rocker:

Given that your "collection" of 7 footers haven't proven they are quality talls, one position has more merit than the other at present. Have a guess which one it is.

That's because you have no argument here, and clearly don't know what you're talking about. But yet you keep pressing and continue to make yourself look foolish, something that is unlike you. Again, I watch every game including the offseason scrimmages and preseason, and even I have no idea what we have in Curry and Pittman. They're not going to get serious minutes until later in the year and right now, with injury sidelining one and inexperience surrounding the other (something which Riley has been traditionally against except in a few cases, one of them being Norris Cole), it's Joel Anthony's job to lose.

My argument is that we have a much deeper team than last year. Last year, the primary arguments for why the Heat wouldn't even make the Finals (remember that "Celtics win 4-2" prediction of your's last year, by the way? Good times.) is that we:

    1. Didn't have a deep enough bench.
    2. Were severely lacking at the PG position.
    3. Were lacking at the C position.

They've addressed the bench issues by re-signing their valuable bench players from last season, bringing in Battier as a reserve forward (guy could probably start for most teams still), and getting a healthy Haslem back. The latter of which will be huge. They've addressed the PG position by keeping Chalmers, a solid defensive PG who can provide a spark off the bench, and drafting what looks like gold in Norris Cole, who can provide the same spark... only offensively. They've addressed the C position by giving Dexter Pittman more playing time in the preseason. He looked pretty solid in scrimmages and against Dwight Howard, where he was very physical. They also brought in Eddy Curry who, in his last full NBA season before injury, had his best season as a pro. Out of the three, their moves at the C position are still pending right now. I haven't seen enough to honestly say that they fully addressed that position, but I like what I've seen so far... which, no doubt, is a whole hell of a lot more than you have seen.

With that said, you're down on the centers we brought in in the place of Big Z and Dampier. So go ahead and stop deflecting the fact that your argument is weak with that snarky attitude of your's and answer this question: WHY are you so down on the centers they've brought in? What have you SEEN out of the two to make you form that opinion? Of course, I know that you won't answer this in your next post because you'd have to admit that you didn't know what you were talking about in your first post. So...

I see a team that went to the Finals last year and won two games in spite of all of those personnel issues that I mentioned. I see a team this year that's much deeper than that team. I see good things ahead. Well... if you're a Heat fan.

You know you don't have to read my posts right? Besides, I thought you weren't watching this season. With that in mind, what the hell are you doing here?

I'm not disagreeing with you about the Heat as I agree with you that they do appear better constructed than last season, what I am pointing out to you is that the centers and sizeable players outside of Bosh (who let's face it doesn't have a physical bone in his body) will be your achilles heel. Somehow, you've misrepresented that into thinking the Heat are crap, which I don't believe.

I think the Heat will win the East and go to the finals. What you get from your big men will determine whether or not they win a ring or end runner up again.
