Direct quote from Tomase(http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/football/patriots/view.bg?articleid=1049632):

On the surface it sounds reasonable enough. The passing game is so over-the-top good, they don’t need to do anything else. But ask yourself this: did the 49ers of the ’80s have to run the ball? Did the Cowboys of the ’90s? Do the Colts of today?

The answer in all three cases was and is no, and yet all three chose to anyway. And why is that? Because winning in December and January requires balance, particularly when your defense is thin at linebacker and aging at a number of key spots.

To summarize:
1. Did the '80s 49ers or '90s Cowboys need to run to win? No.
2. You need to run the football to win. #1 is the proof.

Aging at a number of key spots? One safety position, the rest of the Dbs are YOUNG. A couple linebackers are at the far end of their career, out of about 4-5 that we can currently field competently. Nobody is aged on the D-Line.

If we need to, we can play only three linebackers and have only two senior citizens on the field (Seau/Bruschi and Harrison). Harrison has been a plus lately again and Bruschi and Seau have been solid.

Oh well...wouldn't expect any keen insight from this dork.
