I remember reading/listening somewhere last season that since 1996 the number of teams which fail to repeat as a playoff team the next season was at least 5 per year. This seems to be true this season too.The following teams failed to re-enter the Playoffs this year

    Ravens
    Vikings
    Redskins
    Texans
    Falcons.

    Go Pats!!! :rocker::rocker:

Ravens had the record leading 5 post season appearances in a row.

the Patriots now hold that record at 5 post seasons in a row.

That has to be just the current streak though, right? Pretty sure the Cowboys hold the overall record.

This is another good thread which indirectly highlights the true accomplishments and value of Bill Belichick.

Because we are annually in the thick of the playoff hunt, media and fans alike just expect another playoff berth the next year. When they do, it's a 'ho hum' yeah that's what we can expect but where is my championship?

What we fail to realize is that there are teams each year that have not only playoff hopes but STRONG Super Bowl hopes that inevitably fizzle out. Two huge examples this year were the Houston Texans and Atlanta Falcons. Both had high aspirations and for many reasons it just didn't pan out.

The Pats have plenty of excuses to fail as well, but here's the thng "they don't need them, they don't use them.....and why? because they still continue to keep on winning"

In 2006 the Pats made it to the AFC Championship game with Troy Brown, Reche Caldwell, and Jabar Gaffney as their starting receivers.

In 2008, the Pats went 11-5 without Brady, A.Thomas, and L.Maroney (three guys they planned to rely heavily on). Sure, they unfortuately didn't make the playoffs, but they still went 11-5!!!!.....the same record they had in 2001 when they earned a first round bye

And the truly amazing thing is that we have only missed the playoffs 4 times since 1996 and only once did we have a losing season 2000. The other misses were 1999 at 8-8, 2002 at 9-7, and 2008 at 11-5.

Just to drill the point home this means we have made the SB more times than we have missed out on the playoffs.

And if you go back to 1994 you can add in one more miss and one more appearance.

    Thank You Mr. Kraft!

PS: Think about this - If we win the SB this year we will have an equal number of SB wins to playoff misses since 1996!

I would be willing to bet that since 1994, the Pats probably have more wins than any other NFL team, and obviously have more SB appearances than any other team. Considering where the franchise was headed in 1991 and 1992, Kraft not only saved the Patriots, he helped make them a powerhouse for basically the last 2 decades. Kudos to Kraft, Parcells, Bledsoe, Belichick and Brady.

and in 2002/2008 we were tied for first place in the division and lost on tie-breakers. so, by wins/losses nobody has been higher in the AFCE since 2000. I don't think I've heard anyone say it that way before :D (then again we're Patriots and the post season matters...other teams might take what they can get).

and thanks to those who clarified my misleading statement...current record for 5 in a row.
