Nice to see that some media types can be objective (at times, anyway)

YAY FOR YOUTUBE VIDEOS UNRELATED TO THE SUBJECT AT HAND!!!!

As for the topic, I wouldn't go so far as to say the media is being objective, I'd say it's more along the lines that they were high? I dunno, it's suprising to me to be honest to see them say that.

    Meh.

I thought it was a pretty mediocre speech. Not sure why people are surprised. The liberal media has shown thus far a greater propensity to criticize Obama than the conservative media ever did under Bush.

Well at least he had an American flag behind him this time. He really WAS playing to his audience this time:rolleyes:. I think he even said God Bless America. Of course nobody bought it. He's not as good of an actor as we thought. :p

Correction: you didn't buy it. I have a feeling rational, thinking people probably had a vastly different reaction.

The citizens of Louisiana sure do. Recent polls show they prefer Bush's response to Katrina over Obama's response to the oil spill.

Let me say that again: We are not even 18 months into the Obama administration, and he has already seen a crisis which is being handled worse than Bush handled Katrina.

But on the bright side, his golf handicap is much better!

What's interesting is that if you examine the crosstabs of the poll, you'll get a lot more insight into the dynamics than the rote top-line numbers you just regurgitated.

Not really all that surprising, is it? Louisiana is a pretty red state.

If people in New Orleans, or other areas that Obama (presumably) won, feel this way, it might be telling.

Well then you'll be happy to know that in a poll of a cross section of the entire country, they rated the oil spill response worse than the Katrina response.

What do the folks in New Orleans and other (formerly?) pro-Obama areas that were affected by both have to say? (I thought that was the point you were trying to make by citing just Louisiana folks.)

Personally, I think this is being handled poorly. But I also find much of the criticism to be pretty hypocritical, and I haven't heard any real solutions being offered by anybody.

No surprise, it's another instance of partisans on both sides simply switching arguments. It's kind of amusing, actually, when it's not sad.

Quite Honeslty, as a person who likes Obama....

This speech was about 50 days too late.

He should've been saying something to the effect that we, as a nation need to lead the world in the next generation of fuel. We need solar panels on every rooftop, and the construction of those solar panels will happen in the Gulf States....

    Instead, he told me:

    1) The spill is bad
    2) The will have it cleaned up in 90 DAYS????? ( who believes that?)
    3) he is appointing a lawyer to some post I've never heard of...50 days after the spill.
    4) Go visit the gulf and its beaches (HOLY BUSH!!!!)
    5) we are addicted to oil, but he has no clue how we get off of it.(HOLY BUSH part 2!!!!!)

    Hate to say it, buddy....

    FAIL!

    You are slippin Barack

I agree that it was too late.

However, I disagree with you about the message. While it's a good idea to continue to talk about the importance of developing alternatives, if he does that instead of talking about the crisis, he appears oblivious.

The thrust of any talks about the current crisis has to be the existing crisis.

First I give a poll from the citizens of Louisiana, but that wasn't good enough since Louisiana is apparently too red for your taste.

No problem, says I, and I report a poll that was from across the entire nation. But now even that isn't good enough!

Looks like you won't accept the validity of any poll except one that is exclusive to members of the Obama cabinet... would that be an "impartial" enough sample for you?
