    Discuss.

Sorry, that's pretty much all I could come up with. Oh - and that we should've tackled Barber in the EZ (not to mention the refs should've called the BLATANT holding by Dallas on the play that would've resulted in a safety).

    Harrison was much worse.

Kind of makes you wonder if the team should have him starting against Indy in a few weeks against their top 2 WRs and Gonzalez in the slot - T.O. and Witten owned him on several plays.

He will play fine against garbage teams but the elite teams I worry about,On the other hand Gay is the most underated player on that defense,I see his number on tackles it seems more than most others out there so far this year.

Perfection in a football game is not easy.

    #12 Jersey

Barber ran right through him on successive plays (I think they were successive). Not his best, but something for him to focus on. At least it came in a big win.

I think Harrison played a bit better then Wilson. Wilson got run over on two consecutive plays by Jones.

Yeah, why are people bringing up Wilson when it seemed pretty clear that Harrison was far worse.

You mean the one time he got run over and the second time that he was clearly down when Wilson tackled him, but he got up and ran for six more yards and the refs gave it to him? So Wilson gets blamed for a horrible call from the ref when he really made the play?

Ah, no. Harrison was abused in pass coverage today, far worse than Wilson failing to wrap up on a couple of running plays (which is all I saw that he did wrong).

Our tackling all around was awful. I was in a state of shock after the missed safety oppurtunities. Don't blame our worst defensive performance so far on Geno...Rodney was definitely worse today, all around it wasn't terrific for our defense.

I even heard Bill complimenting Eugene and Rodney on something oddly enough in his presser.

    Um...maybe because...it's not clear?

Whatever, neither covered himself in glory. HGHarrison has a "rusty" excuse. Geno doesn't. He did a bad job. That said, 48-27, so.

Unless Meriweather improves his coverage skills, he won't be replacing anyone. He seems to be getting less time now that Harrison is back, not more. If you look at the depth chart on Ptatriots .com, he is listed behind Hobbs at CB and as the # 3 SS behind Harrison and Sanders, and not Wilson.

He did miss a couple tackles. But that's about it. Hardly threadworthy.

Cmon...Geno missed a couple tackles, but you know what was worse, every single player who failed to take down Barber in the endzone. PITIFUL.

Why? Because the refs blew a call when he clearly tackled Jones, but they said he wasn't down. Wilson had a decent game compared to the rest of the secondary.

I'd like to see Sanders, Meriweather, and Wilson, especially against teams like the Colts.

Uh, sure. He did barely make that second tackle. Harrison didn't play amazingly awesome out there, but I feel Wilson didn't play better than him.

Yeah, especially when Harrison got toasted by Crayton for a TD and Samuel and Hobbs ran into each other on a TO TD. Wilson was the only starting secondary players who didn't give up a TD today.

He made the tackle. The only reason he was in position to make either tackle was because Jones smoked our front seven on both those plays. Why aren't you talking about them. The only reason Wilson would be in position to tackle a RB 10 plus yards down the field on a running play is because several other players blew their assignments.

There are some people who really don't like Geno around here. I can remember a couple of poor tackling performances by our defense(one was the Jets in week 2 of 06) and now today. Blame it all on Geno. Honestly if someone like Sanders missed a couple of tackles like Wilson nobody would have mentioned it.

But he can't cover. Usually Wilson is a pretty reliable tackler.

Maybe it had something to do with the scheme they tried today. BB talked about it in his press conference, that they played three safeties a lot today to try to cover their receivers and Witten. It almost seemed like RH and Geno were out of position, or maybe out of their comfort zone on some plays. If that is the case, back to the drawing board.

I appreciate the insights of those arguing against my singling out Wilson over, say, Rodney. Good points.

I think part of why I let Rodney slide is that he's still a little rusty, there's a bit of a "binky" factor at work here, and he made a couple of big tackles - HE is the one who finally brought down Barber after his scamper through the EZ, and Rodney also saved a KR TD and worked his ASS off to do so.

I agree. Other than those two Jones running plays, I barely noticed Wilson good or bad. The second Jones tackle it was clear that Jones' elbow hit the ground. How can people still be blaming him for something that he clearly did his job and the refs blew it and Belichick must not have wanted to use a challenge for six yards? Yet, people are blaming him.

But he also cost us a TD against Crayton and we only gave up two TDs. So working his ass off is a relative term. Without knowing what Wilson's and Harrison's responsibilities were this game, it is impossible to know if either were doing their jobs. Many times they have Wilson playing deep to make sure we don't give up a big play and Harrison closer to the line. That means that Wilson could be running around just as much, but you don't see it on TV unless the opposing team goes deep.

This is what many of the armchair DC's fail to consider - maybe they were where they were supposed to be only that turned out to be an untenable position. There was something odd going on out there at times today, but they changed things up and and eventually found a scheme that worked. For openers they started knocking Witten down or at least off kilter as opposed to loosly shadowing him.
