This is a good thing if people actually start to put 2+2 together and quit the push for this silliness.

You really didn't have to read beyond where they stated the explorers had bigger engines then the jeeps they replaced. Ah, and they needed bigger engines because...............
Our government shouldn't even be in the business of delivering 'mail'. I receive about 10% of important mail from the P.O, the rest is junk in which I do not want, and not sure if there's anyway of stopping it from being delivered. Deliver that 10% thru other means and cancel my service. The U.S. Mail Service will be obsolete soon enough, yet it will continue due to lobbyists and politicians who do not want to lose power.

Mail carriers should use hybrids--gas/electric, able to charge the battery through braking etc, because of course just plugging in a straight electric car leads to more electricity demand, which burns yet more diesel and or coal.

Knee jerk reactions are seldom viable, and that's what the Postal Service was doing.

The US postal service pays for itself through postage. It's an independent agency. That junk mail you got was paid for by someone who bought a stamp. It wasn't subsidized by tax money.

Just read an article on a new Volvo that is being tested that works like that. No transmission, braking creating energy, etc. I'll look for the article.

The government should not be in the business of delivering mail. A private organization would do it at less cost. If you've ever tried to contract any business with the P.O then you would automatically agree. Ever even try to get a job at a post office? I don't care if a company pays for its own junk mail, to me its the same thing as getting calls from telemarketers. What about all the land that the Post Office sits on, I'm sure that $$$ could go to something useful. In a few decades the P.O. will be an obsolete business, yet we will still have mail carriers and the 'General' in charge. Oh yea, the rates to mail will keep increasing, and politicians will pass a law demanding a certain document must be transported thru the U.S. Mail.

Thanks. That looks promising...if they could just get batteries to last longer than around 50 miles it would be great. I like that the motors are at each wheel. That makes a lot of sense.

So don't use the postal service. Call UPS. I'm kinda perplexed here. The USPS has been around since our inception. I thinks it's played a big factor in our development as a nation. Maybe someday it will wear out it's usefullness, but I don't think that days come yet. We'll agree to disagree I guess.

Ok, let me put it in another way. Someday, the vast majority of your mail will be junk mail (mine already is). I don't want this junk as I do not want a telemarketer call. I can go on the no-call list, but will not be able to go on a no-mail list. As more of our youth grow into adults, and more of our seniors pass on, the mail service will become even more of a flyer/junk service. The U.S. Mail service will have about as much use a Penney, which I'm sure they still will be minting.

Wow, that's something that I never thought about. I guess that's a good reason for us to not have a postal service.
