Well if you don't mind my being humble **** Long does kind of sound like a fitting porn name for me.. :D :D

Ah.. who am I kidding.. I've never got a "oh my god" from a woman right after the crucial reveal.

Wasn't "The Crucial Reveal" the name of a Spinal Tap album?

I thought we were playing who can be the most offensive..........
Ashley and her thoughts on the organisation, then we respond?

That wasn't the point of the exercise?

How darling. Benny thinks he can be witty.

Maybe you took the time to read her work over the last couple of years, or at least read this column. Fox is a solid writer and your demeaning sexist slight only makes you look like a boob compared to someone like Fox who has gone out and earned it in the real world not cyber fantasy land.

Isn't it time for your nap?

Do you prefer lube, or, the classic smoking gun?

Wait a minute. Did I miss the sarcasm?

I'm not going to read the column. I've heard variations on it before. I can't take credit for this, but I read a reaction elsewhere that I agree with:

None of these media members (whether it's Fox, Whitlock, or some of the locals) are that upset with Hernandez. They have taken a a terrible event as an opportunity to point at the Patriots and say "See? Your team isn't really that well run." Who thinks that way after a murder?

Hilarious read from Deadspin ripping poor Ashley's article to shreds:

Not the first time they've ripped her. They were quick to point out the sheer awfulness of her reporting of Michael Vick in 2010:

Ashley Fox, Philadelphia Inquirer: "Michael Vick once fought and electrocuted dogs. Now, as the Eagles' starting quarterback, he is the most electric player in the National Football League."

I really don't care what anyone writes about this, but I think it is silly to chastise the Pats for employing Hernandez because he had some red flags in college when there are plenty of teams in all sports who employ players with far more red flags and most of them haven't come back to bite them.

It is easy to look at the situation after the fact and play morality police. If we find out the Pats knew he was potentially getting involved in some really bad stuff, then we can judge. But nothing we have learned about Hernandez's college days is anything worse than probably three or four dozen NFL players had in college.

Classic Deadspin Rebuttal to ESPN Fox's hackery

(Mods, I thought it was worth its own thread, but merge if you must.)

It's been a while since we did a proper fisking of a terrible piece of sportswriting. Actually, we probably did it a few hours ago, but no matter: This putrid column from ESPN's Ashley Fox deserves special recognition. Fox, whose archive reads like a First Take producer's brainstorming session, has taken the New England Patriots to task for employing an alleged murderer when they did not know that they were employing a potential alleged murderer.

[Fox] The New England Patriots seem to be trying to do the right thing. Now. Now that they know Aaron Hernandez has been accused of executing an associate. Now that their star tight end is behind bars facing murder and weapons charges, denied bail and awaiting a trial that likely won't start until next year.

I know! The Patriots cut Hernandez NOW, when they have reasonable evidence that he probably killed people? Way to go, you Johnny-come-latelies! Awfully easy to cast the man aside now that he's been accused of a horrific crime, but it takes men of real grit to assemble a team of futuristic pre-cogs, sift through data analyses, and come to the conclusion that they preemptively should cut one of the best tight ends in football because they can reasonably assume he'll be participating in gangland-style murders mere months hence. That's how Ted Thompson does it!

Can't wait for the sanctimonious red rooster to write one of his patented Dan Smarmessy hit pieces aimed at poor iddle widdle "poor woman's Rosie" Ashley Fox....

"Ashley...please seek life elsewhere...

"Dan...do shave your azz and walk backwards with a tweed cap on it...or my GF will kick your azz..."

How bad was that article? Even other ESPN employees are panning it on air (ESPN Radio, SportsCenter Tonight)!

It's hilarious, a player murders someone and these hack writers take the opportunity to fire off potshots at Belichick, Kraft and The Patriots that completely miss the target.

Ya let's not bring up the fact that for 3 seasons Hernandez had no incidents at all. But you got hacks like Felger saying the Patriots should have put a tail on him for a few weeks before they signed him to the extension because he had characters issues. Hey idiots he went 2 seasons with no problems and the Patriots do something that they've gotten completely killed on over the last 10 years. Which is extending guys on rookie or small contracts early.

So Patriots extend Hernandez early and a year later this happens. Belichick and Kraft get ripped apart, because they didn't have a guy tailing him 24/7 and if they did they would have known.

They let Hernandez play out his rookie contract, this incident never happens and they let him go to free agency and he signs elsewhere. Belichick and Kraft get ripped apart for playing hardball and low balling another player. Hell if Kraft came out publicly and said they didn't resign Hernandez because of off the field concerns Boston sports media would bring up every questionable character guy they had signed and would say that this is just an excuse because again they what meet a players demands and it's always gotta be there way.

Re: Classic Deadspin Rebuttal to ESPN Fox's hackery

I don't know if Ms. Fox is aware, but Ray Lewis is now an ESPN employee.

Just sayin'
