It's not just one loss, really, it's been a thorough revamping of the defense, some shoddy playcalling and a slippage in quality of play by the offensive line.

Its always shoddy playcalling when someone misses an assignment and the play doesnt work. Once they start clicking and scoring in bunches it wont look so shoddy.

For the offense, according to this piece: 21 drives, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. I'm guessing that the team feels there's plenty of blame to go around.

This is good. For once the media isn't crowning this team as the model franchise/ model quarterback/ model coach. I hope the criticism keeps on coming... light a fire.

Two chicks talking about Brady. What's new?

I was hoping for a real interview, not assumptions based on his press conferences.

The most interesting thing to me is that everyone on the Pats seems willing to take responsibility - the coaching staff, TB, and various players across the board. There's no finger pointing or questioning of anyone else.

Cour course, that's not new. And that's what's good about it. That's the same response we're used to seeing from veteran Patriot teams, from veteran leaders like Rodney and Tedy, Vrabes, and Troy Brown. That bodes well that this team is in fact the heir to those teams, and that the younger generation are learning the same kind of responsible leadership and accountability that has been a hallmark of the BB era.

SB winners are never determined by how well they play in September. How well they deal with adversity, however, has a lot to do with who is ready to make a serious run deep in the playoffs. We'll see how things translate onto the field on Sunday, but there's nothing I've seen so far to suggest that this team won't handle adversity as well as its predecessors.

Oh yes... it's called Karma. the Patriots rarely experience it in a bad way, because they try very hard to take the morale high ground on these issues. Publicly, anyway... :D

Karma doesn't care so much about you thinking bad thoughts. It's when you act on them or give voice to them that she tends to take notice.....

Well then she is going to Love Rex Ryan.....as with the mob in the off season when they ask him for a meeting near the Hudson river.

I hope we see a hungry team come out there against Atlanta. I was to see a successful drive resulting in some points on the very first offensive possession. However, I won't lie to anybody. I worry. Atlanta has a very good pass rush and John Abraham has to be looking at his match-up against Matt Light with fire in his eyes. Hopefully, after this past week, the Patriots come out with a different sort of fire... one in their bellies.

Good point. Todd Light better step up!!

I do believe this week will be a pivotal one for the Patriots in the practices and tape review of the last two games. The team is hungry for a win and I am sure they will be victorious.

Have Matt Light, Dan Koppen, and the rest of this "bunch of try-hard, injury-prone stiffs" taken responsibility for this sorry excuse of an OL?

Has The Randy Ratio taken responsibility for his inability to beat single coverage deep, or to out-fight anybody for a jump ball?

And has the FO taken responsibility for Chicken Legs, KOC, Terry Wheatley, Alex Smith, Greg Lewis, Kareem Brown, ClintRichardsOldenOhrenBurger, George Bustey, CJack, ROC, Jeremy Mincey, Duane Starks, Bumblin' Bennie, Guss Scott, Dexter Reid, Cedric Effin Cobbs, Bethel Johnson, Dan Klecko, Brock Williams & Kenyatta Jones?

There's 31 other teams in the NFL that have NEVER made a bad pick in the draft, had wide receivers covered with single coverage or endured any injuries to their offensive lines. Maybe you should pick one to root for.Probably improve the quality of your life immensely.

i watched the clip. no big deal, just saying what we know he's been saying. these people get paid for telling us what we already know and what was there to be known before the season began.

the pats are going to need a few weeks to pull the pieces together. the only thing i've seen that i didn't expect was the extremely poor play of Special Teams against the Jets. i think it's going to take until the bye week to come together. i hope we're 5--2 then but even if we're 4--3 i still see us getting stronger and better every week as the season goes on, winning the division and making a credible run at another Lombardi.

remember, the last time the mediots said the Pats were a team in turmoil at the beginning of the season was 2003. that ended pretty well.

Where do you come up with this crap? OMG, the FO has made mistakes. No other franchise has ever done that

and why does everybody keep saying the Jets used single coverage on Randy. Didnt anyone else see the safety?

and one more thing. If you hate so many things about this team, then why are you a 'fan' ?? Go be a Jets fan. I hear they're perfect

you say "pivotal" and i would agree with that as it implies a turn and progress. that's all i'm looking for, win or lose. i'm not buying the hype that says this is a "defining" game for the pats; there's too much work to be done before we get to that point.

In November, we have consecutive games against the Colts, Jests and Saints. That stretch will define this season, not Sunday's game.

I wouldn't want to tell any of the Pats to their face that they don't have "fire in their bellies," so I'll differ with you on that one.

Here's what I want to see:

    1) Whether the Offense can establish the run in that first possession and in the game, score or no score.

    2) Whether TB stands in the pocket and doesn't start drifting back and to his left right after the ball is snapped, especially after a play on which he took a hit.

    3) Whether Brady gets hit and knocked to the ground a lot less often than he was last week (don't have the right stats at hand on that one).

    4) Whether TB puts a few balls on the money with some zip early on and isn't overthrowing the big throws and just missing the short ones by a foot or two. A couple seven or eight yard completions on that first drive would be a good sign.

    5) How the new secondary handles Ryan and Gonzalez.

    6) Whether we can mount any sort of rush on Ryan.

    7) Whether Special Teams can consistently keep the Falcons inside the 25 yard line on KO's and not give them field position at the 35 or better consistently. Nearly everyone of Ghost's kicks were three to five yards deep, but the Jets were running them out with abandon.

    8) No more than one Delay of game call on the Offense.

    9) No more than two Holding Calls on the Offense.

That's it. This is a work in progress. Like every other Pats fan on this Board I want a W, but if four or five of those things are moving in the right direction, I'll be happy. It's a long season.
