I would agree. He's not nearly one of the top backs in the league, but he puts in his dues and runs hard.

I love Green Ellis, and I was one of the people who thought he sucked pre 2010. Didn't he injury a Buccaneer player last game? He was delivering some blows.

He is not underrated by me. His ability to never fumble the ball is nothing short of miraculous AFAIC. This is a guy who always "does his job" which is the fundamental requirement of any good Patriot. He is a tough competitor, not "made of glass", and seems to have a great attitude and work ethic.

It is so easy to overlook the consistent competitor that can be depended on for the flashy, dynamic one but often it is the former that is more valuable.

Yeah, we deserve much better than 1000 yards, 4.4/carry, 13 TDs, a first down on like 30% of his carries, and zero fumbles.

    Throw the bum out!

To my eyes he seemed to have shed a few pounds. I believe he said in an inteview last season that he had bulked up to about 235. Maybe that was a little too much.

He was quicker and shiftier in that TB game than I can remember from last season.

Benny's like the current version of Antwoin Smith. Fans of other teams may laugh and say we don't have a running game, whatever, he just lowers his shoulders and get's the job done. As long as he doesn't start wearing fur coats...

People on this very own board underrate him.

Definitely. As someone else mentioned, his ability to hold on to the ball is VASTLY underrated. I don't get why people don't appreciate that more. Especially with how pissed off this board gets when other players fumble.

I was down on BJGE prior to late last season. He had a remarkable season last year especially from where he came from. Right now, I would say other than Reggie Bush, he may be the best RB in the AFC East. Who's better? Shonn Greene?!? The guy is still living up to the reputation of a couple of playoff games in 2009 and has been mostly mediocre. Fred Jackson?!? I don't know, but he is hurt by a bad Bills defense that forces them to throw a lot.

Now he is an overrated RB! Great receiver, but I wouldn't call him a great runner!

Bush is overrated, but I still think he is better than BJGE at this point. Granted he isn't better than BJGE as a pure RB, but as a total package he is better. Bush also has a durabilty issue.

As I mentioned in the thread about him being traded, Reggie Bush in 2009 (superbowl season) and Woodhead's 2010 were very similar!

Bush isn't that different! The only thing he has over Woodhead is his returns!

I have a hard time saying the best RB in the AFCE is a player who doesn't run the ball particularly well.

Law firm does one thing better than just about any other running back, he holds onto the ball, and he works hard. Basically, he does his job.....:rocker:

    Disable Jersey

No offense to BJGE, but Maroney was getting those same high marks with some of the F.O. rankings, and people here were dismissive of those rankings then.

One of the things we overlook as Patriots fans, IMO, is just how well this team uses the running game, in terms of overall efficiency without elite RBs. I'd like to have seen Maroney more integrated into the passing game, but his runs were great examples of how to use an RB1. I think we saw the same thing with BJGE last season.

I'd love to see this team add a Jackson/Peterson type of elite runner on top of the passing attack, just to see how the Patriots worked the player in and how defenses tried to defend it.
