My advice to you is: In the future, if a doctor comes to you with a treatment or cure that originates from stem cell research, you should refuse the treatment or cure.

Otherwise, let medical researchers attempt to cure Parkinsons, or paralysis, or cancer, or Alzhimers....

umbylical cord stem cells are a different story. these will be used to cure many diseases over the next couple of years. the ability to get umbylical cord cells is so much easier.

If curing my mother's cancer means a stem cell, that was going to be medical waste anyway, has to serve a differnt purpose?

    Hmmmmm......medical waste bag.....VS......my mother's life.....????

    damn, thats a tough one.....

I'll think about it and post later.

The point of this isn't whether we have to choose, it's that embryonic stem cells have not found any success yet compared to others. And there's been plenty of money, CA alone had a $3B or so bond for private sector spending.

Cancer sucks, my mom died 3 months ago from it, but I wasn't sitting back expecting anything from embryonic stem cells.

Holy Diver=brain filled with embryonic stem cells
BelichickFan=brain filled with adult stem cells

    See the difference?

Sorry to hear about your mom, all my thoughts and go to you and your family. I understand. Mine is past her 5th battle, for now.

I too am not expecting a miracle cure, nor will I stand in the way of research.

There was an interesting piece on 60 minutes about a year ago, on how this retired radio guy was using gold nano cells, and sound waves to kill cancer cells. SUPER interesting stuff.

So let's talk about Mom's life, I have already lost my Mom to cancer.

Since the progress and all therapies are related to adult, placental and umbilical stem cells and not embroynic stem cells why should we direct the vast majority of research $$$ to the approach that is ineffective?

Would you want to increase you Mom's chances of survival by supporting research that is producing results rather than throwing $$$ at ESC as a sop to the abortion community?

Its not about the investing of $$, its about limiting research.

It would be like if there was a possibility of curing paralysis with Elephant sperm, and we banned all dumbo porn....

The point is the the probability seems higher with non embryonic stem cells vs. embryonic stem cells. So while there is a non zero probability embryonic stem cells will lead to a cure, the probability is higher with other stem cells - so which should we spend money on ?

No research has been limited, indeed private pharmas had not had any restraints put in place, the only 'restriction' is what lines could be funded by fed $$$. The states for example NJ and CA have poured billions into ESC and only produced tumors not theraphy, all to make it easier for the abortion lobby to try to rationialize their support for killing the unborn.

I answered your question why not answer mine. Why not fund research that could help save your Mom's life?

I'm all for ANY research. Imagine if we applied the same ethical percentages to invasions?

We have no problems spending trillions on wars
We have no problems spending trillions on war machines
We have no problems spending trillions on invasions

    But......

    using a STEM CELL?

    NO FUKING WAY!!!!!

We have limitedmoney you can't have it all. So you refuse the answer a question about how prioritize the research money I accept that.

I thought you would be more concerned about your Mom's chance to beat cancer. Guess I was wrong.

Maybe you read what I wrote wrong, or missed the very first few words... but I'm 100% for ANY research that will cure incurable diseases. Infact, education for doctors and funding for research should be at the top of our list. I believe that if patients WANT to undergo radical therapies and attempts at cures, they should be allowed to do so.

I am fully AGAINST war profiteering, and the military industrial complex. Imagine if we directed our efforts, and funds at cancer like we do toward a jet like the F-22....

The US Air Force has invested $62 billion and purchased 183 F-22s.

    none have been used.

We can't fund all Stem cell reasearch, currently the government is spending much more on ESC rather than other stem cell research.

You are trying to derail the thread by bringing up the defense budget which has nothing to do with this issue. Start a thread on the defense budget, which the administration is slashing.

Specifically ESC has produced nothing, whereas other research which has produced results is not being funded by government. Do you agree with this approach?

Why are you afraid to answer that simple question?

Not a derail, more of a comparason. You are complaining that it has yet to bear fruit...well..

We spend TONS of money already on things (such as the F22) that yield nothing. Infact, that aircraft is mainly meant to kill things, or drop bombs.

All I'm saying is that you'll have a real hard time convincing me that the persuit of treatments and/or cures to disease is worthless. I say spare no expense, and explore all avenues.
