    #95 Jersey

Edelman hurt as well it looks like

Welker, Connolly, Wilhite & Edelman leave with injuries. On the injury front, receiver Wes Welker (neck), starting right guard Dan Connolly (right ankle), cornerback Jonathan Wilhite (undisclosed but walked off under own power) and receiver Julian Edelman (hand) all left the game and didn't return. Welker's last play came at the end of the second quarter when he made a hard tackle on a Brady interception.

    I hate preseason..so useless...

    1) No one else is retruning punts.

    2) He was out #3 receiver this preseason.

    3) Edelman is the abckup for Welker in the slot.

    4) BOTTOM LINE
Edelman is at the least the #5 receiver at this point, probably #4.

I don't think we was ever the #3 this preseason, maybe up to #4 now. But with the way Ocho is playing who knows. Definitely on the team, hopefully injury is nothing serious.

I always thought he was a lock. But you're right. He did play better tonight.

In a game where very few Patriots stood out........ he was certainly among the few. I had him as a lock anyway..... nothing tonight changed that.

Well, to be fair, they did have what looked to be seven receivers (83, 84, 85, Price, Tate, Edelman, Slater) competing for what look to be six spots.

In any case, based on play so far, I'd put the pecking order as:

    Wide 1 Branch
    Slot 1 Welker
    Wide 2 Price
    Slot 2/Wide 4/PR Edelman
    Wide 3 Ochocinco
    Wide 5/ST Slater
    Outside looking in: Tate

I hope he can live up to his promise as a receiver from his rookie season. I thought he could take the next step last year and be a Branch type, but he was an after thought as a receiver last year.

It's football, these things are going to happen which is why it's important to have depth. They are even more prevalent when you are playing on your heels and the other team is punching you in the face (literally).

Tate looked like he was trying too hard on those kick returns. Edelman just took it. I feel sorry for Tate though. He is a lot better then the injuries will let him be.

I'm afraid to say this for fear of what Sciz might say, but if he didn't have the bad luck of breaking his arm in the TEN blowout, imagine how much better he might be right now. . . .

Over at Footballs Future, they have a predict-the-53 thread. Here's what they had at WR (in reverse posting order, and I won't name specific posters):

WR (6)-Ochocinco, Branch, Welker, Price, Edelman, Slater
    WR: Welker-85-Branch-Price-Slater-Edelman (6)
    6 WR: Welker/Branch/Ochocinco/Price/Tate/Slater
(6)WR:Ocho Branch Price Welker Ross Slates
WR (6)-Ochocinco, Branch, Welker, Price, Tate, Slater
WR (6) – Wes Welker, Deion Branch, Chad Ochocinco, Taylor Price, Julian Edleman, Matt Slater
WR:, 85, Branch, Welker, Price, Edelman, Slater, Farnham (added-ST/DB/KR/WR)
    WR C. Ochocinco/W. Welker/D. Branch/J. Edelman/B. Tate/T. Price
WR: Johnson, Welker, Branch, Price, Edelman, Tate
WR: Johnson, Welker, Branch, Price, Slater, Tate

Maybe I've been misreading the situation, but I've never considered Edelman anything but a lock. Edelman is WR4 on this team, as the backup to Welker, and he's got return skills as well.

I think so. Plus with the annoying new kick off rules, Edelman is better returning kick offs.

Quicker > Speed in terms of kick returns. Tate's speed is negated by the rule and with Jules's quickness, he can still use his quickness to get around guys. Tate can't.

Tate just doesn't have any wiggle to him ... very stiff in the hips.

Anyways I had him done last year and i agree with you.

In reality, there are locks on every team.

Which is precisely why I said no one SHOULD be a lock and not no one IS a lock.

In your fever dreams, no one should be a lock. In reality, there are players on every team who should be locks.
