Was on the main board and read these posts regarding Terrell Suggs of the Baltimore Ravens.

    http://www.patsfans.com/new-england...eo-terrell-suggs-my-boy-flacco-rant-espn.html

I'll start by stating my opinion on this matter. Anyone's ability to speak properly and coherently is open to criticism. Now I can see giving an immigrant who speaks broken english a break, but not someone who has lived in this country their entire life. Does Tyrrell Suggs deserve criticism for the way he speaks? Sure he does.

    Do you agree/disagree?

P.S. Let us all pray he doesn't get a gig on the NFL network when he retires!

The bigger, more pertinent question is who gives a flying fock????

Every time someone repeats what Suggs says, a little girls puppy dies.

Neither do I...but the point I am trying to make is that's it's ok to criticize the manner in which a person speaks. i.e. Sugg's mumbles incoherently when he speaks.

    lol....Sugg's is one scary dude!

Regarding "who gives a flying fock?"...that's why I posted this thread Darryl. So I take it you don't see anything wrong with Gwedd's post? Neither do I.

Let me rephrase it simply, who cares what Suggs says or how he says it???

Different folks have different educational backgounds, different upbringings, different standards, different aptitudes and different ways of expressing themselves it is what it is America today..

If he winds up in a role as a talking head, and he is incoherent (the link didn't work for me), it would bother me and he would deserve criticism since it's his job.

I'm not sure he deserves criticism when he's just a player -- I really don't care how athletes speak, just like I don't really care how fast you run the 40 or how many times the guy at my local coffee shop can bench 225 (answer: zero :) )

Let me ask you this: since you feel he deserves criticism, would you in fact criticize his speaking were you to come across him at some point? ;)

I do care if someone is being interviewed and I can't understand half of what they're saying. Why even interview the guy?

Even the media calls Mayor Menino "Mumbles"...so to me, that means it's ok to say that about anyone.

I guess you don't want to come right out and state your opinion...that's fine. It's a free country.

    Yawwwwnnnn.

    Like Darryl said, "who cares?"

People talk the way they talk. Personally, being from the Midwest, I can't stand the way people from Baltimore sound - or Boston either, for that matter. And the people in Southern Indiana talk and sound entirely different than the people in Northern Indiana sound. Deep South accents confuse me sometimes.

But, just as I don't expect everyone to look alike, I don't expect them to sound alike, either.

    Why would they?

I'm surprised they don't all speak it over at MSNBC, I'd love to hear Mush Mouth Matthews jiving it out while he's drooling.

I don't know...and that's not the point of the thread. Is it ok to use the same barometer when calling Mayor Menino "Mumbles" upon listening to Terryll Suggs?

In my opinion it is equally ok to criticize anyone's ability to speak (people with physical or mental handicaps excluded).

Specifically, the point being discussed; Is it ok to say,

"The link only works for those who speak/understand eubonics."

As one poster wrote on the main board.

If I did not understand something he said, I would say, "What?" or "Say that again?"

As one poster on the main board wrote,

followed by an inuendo of racism by a Raven fan,

I just thought the above comment was way off-base Chico. I should have made that my main point.

There's actually no such thing as "Ebonics"...other than to say it's a poor grasp of the English language.

    Limmited Vocabulary:

It's comical to see some posters on this board who scoff at another posters mispelling say nothing about a complete destruction of the english language.

Gotta admit Harry, that was pretty funny!

BTW....it's not possible to "teach" ebonics. All that is required is that you unlearn everything you about speaking English.
