Brady and Delilah: In the Bible, the alluring Delilah beguiles Samson into cutting his hair, taking away his strength. Reader Jack Kranefuss of Madison, N.J., wonders, has the alluring Gisele beguiled Tom Brady into growing his hair, taking away his ability to read defenses? Brady was terrible against the Jets, then had to get into a shootout game to squeak past winless Buffalo and former backup Ryan Fitzpatrick of Harvard. If Gisele is trying to end Brady's powers, what, Kranefuss wonders, might her ulterior motive be?

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page...0928_tuesday_morning_quarterback&sportCat=nfl

How does this make sense? Brady "had" to get into a shootout game to squeak past winless Buffalo? Huh?

So let's understand this: Brady is so terrible at everything that he he instructed the team to make him win a shootout game rather than demolish Buffalo?

You have to hate a QB rating of 109 and leading the #1 ranked offense in the NFL, with a bump in the road against the league's best defense.

I actually had the exact same though, no kidding. He's growing his hair long and it's sapping his ability. In reality it's probably Giselle's sway over him, the hair is just symbolic, obviously.

BB needs to tell him that he plays a good game on Monday or he gets a crew cut. None of this sissy boy hair stuff. Looks like Shaun Cassidy of the 70s.

And that was to a team that was in desperate straights...to lose two straight home games to start the year would have been catastrophic. The Jets *NEEDED* that game, while the Pats didn't. It does make a difference, quite often.

I also hate his hair... but won't stoop so low as to blame (?) the Buffalo game on him.

I'm amazed at the amount of grown men worried about another's hair. Do all you men up there watch lifetime and have candle light parties too? ;)

Seriously I have no idea what to even say about that comment, aside from calling Mr. Easterbrook "really dumb" is INCREDIBLY kind.

Doesn't Brady's winning his shootout vs. Buffalo indicate strength in the hair, rather than weakness.

Not only is the analogy stupid, it's misused.

What amazes me the most is that Easterbrook gets paid to write this schlock.

Commenting on Easterbrook is not really worth the breath. He probably poops those 20,000 word crapfests faster than you read them--I'm sure he is not one to scrutinize his logic, which he probably considers divinely inspired, or at least infallible. With that being said, IMO it's hard to be a leader of men with that ridiculous haircut. I for one think it would be awesome if he showed up for Monday night with a buzzcut.

    No Jersey Selected

You know how we have a Practice Squad section and different sections for Draft and NFL talk? Maybe we can have a separate "room" for talk about hair and Giselle and gossipy celebrity things that are usually discussed at the hair dresser's. We can call it "The Salon" or the "Ladies' Tea Room" or something like that.

By the way, Clay Matthews seems to be doing fine despite his hair:

Has the racist, registered sex offender been released from jail? Does anyone actually read his column? Seriously, Easterbrook isn't worth the bandwidth his columns take up.

Now I'm worried about what happens if Brady cuts his hair. If he throws a few INTs, the Delilah references will pop up all over the place.

I'm OK with him cutting it, as long as Troy Polamalu and Clay Matthews cut theirs off too.

Clearly, it's Brady's fault that our defense isn't very good.

Then again, if I needed any affirmation that Easterbrook has gone full retard, the starting premise (3-4 relies on speed versus the strength of 4-3) was dumb and false enough to do it. I guess Easterbrook hasn't taken a look at the d-linemen that all of these 2-gap 3-4s put out there lately.

ESPN never should have un-fired him; the guy knows nothing about football.

In some people's opinions, a man having long hair is the sign of a feminine man. Manly men have short hair, damn it! No problem, people are allowed to have opinions; even if they forget Brady having long hair during the 2004 AFCCG, where he played amazingly well for a guy with the flu and a fever.

In my humble opinion, men who complain about another man's fashion and grooming are repressing something of their own. I have short hair because I prefer it (and being in the military I don't have a ton of options anyway). Tom has long hair because, for now at least, he prefers it. How about we butt the f*ck out and let him live his own life?

And you're willing to admit this on a national forum? How long is your hair?

I just going to include this in my original comments but thought why beat a dead horse. You are right on. Anyone who equates a 3-4 defense to speed and a 4-3 to strength is obviously a clown with no football knowledge. The associate with Dwight Freeney is... strength! The first thing you associate with Vince Wilfork is... speed!

He goes on to say that 2 of the last 4 SB Champs ran a 4-3 and then mentioned that the Saints are a 3-4 team capable of running a 4-3. Actually, it's the opposite. The Saints can run multiple fronts, but they are primarily a 4-3 team. You might notice that there are no nose tackles and Vila plays MLB. Easterbrook tries to argue that since they opened the SB in a 3-4, they are a 3-4 team.

    This guy is really stupid.

It's occurred to me more than once that the one person who doesn't seem that concerned about Tom Brady's hair is Tom Brady. The media and fan attention around it is pathetic and reflects on them, not Brady. That's what makes it both funny and fascinating.

Yeah, and that's a classic case of small sample size = pointless conclusion, no less.

Since 2007, 6 teams have played in the Super Bowl.

    3-4 teams:
    2007 Patriots
    2008 Cardinals
    2008 Steelers

    4-3 teams:
    2007 Giants
    2009 Colts
    2009 Saints

So what? Depending on what cut-off point you set, and how far back you're willing to go, you can make the numbers suggest whatever you want. From 2003-2005, three straight SB champs were 3-4 defenses, etc. etc. It's just no way to conduct real analysis, not that I'd expect real analysis from Gregg Easterbrook. The only real conclusion that can be reached from that is that it's possible to succeed with either defense.

If you really want to evaluate trends in defenses, there are ways to do it. He doesn't use any of the valid ones.
