I just finished creating the underlying Excel workbook. I will probably publish the html page on the 1st. Right now, my numbers show with 49 players signed for the 2009 season that the Pats have committed around $108 million to the 2009 cap. I am presuming the following.
1.)Watson, Wilfork, Hobbs, and Kaczur will receive a salary increase as much as they did in 2008.
2.) Green has done enough to earn his $1.9 million escalator for the 2009 season.
3.) That Light and Vrabel's cap numbers will go down because their Pro Bowl incentives are now NLTBE.

My numbers do not include any tenders for ERFAs or RFAs.

Yes indeed! You put a lot of work into what is obviously a labour of love, and I just want to thank you for it. Probably doesn't get said enough, so thanks! ;)

The best thing you can see about Miguel's hard work. There are hardly ever
any dumb posts/questions about cap situation when it comes to signing players.
We all know the deal. Just click on his page and you know wheter we have
enough room for a certain player/trade.

Were there any last minute contract adjustments that served to carry the remainder of the 2008 cap room into 2009?

Are we reading the same board? There's almost always a squabble over this. Even when Miguel posts directly in threads on his area of expertise fistfights break out.

    Thanks, Miguel.

I don't send a lot, but every year, I use the new year's cap page to remind me to donate to Bread of Life. I challenge everyone to show our appreciation by sending a donation. the economy is tight, but they appreciate anything they receive.

So, that is 108 Million on a $124 million without any NLTBE/LTBE credits/debits. Most of which I would expect are credits since Light, Vrabel, and Brady didn't make the Pro-Bowl.

Also, I just noticed that you never updated the information for Mayo.

    As always, great job.

Do not know for a fact but I am presuming so. I am working under the presumption that the Patriots 2009 adjusted cap will be $127 million. The announced cap is $123 million. It will be awhile before the 2009 adjusted cap numbers are reported.

With 49 players and approximately $19M of cap money, it seems that we will be able to franchise Cassel and tender the couple of players we need to, and still be able to handle a minor re-signing or two. However, a re-signing of Wright or several re-signings will take a bit of work.

MG - you are right that the re-signing of Wright might take a bit of work. However, I only see Woods and Ventrone getting tenders. And I think that the Cassel situation will be worked out quickly. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats sit down with Cassel and his agent in the next few weeks and help lay out what Cassel's options are. So that Cassel and his agent can work the scenes to see what is going to be the best fit. That way the situation is taken care of quickly. Cassel gets to the team he wants to play on and the Pats get their 14.6 million freed up as quickly as possible.

We could also potentially give Wilfork his payday a year earlier, if we thought that would make it easier to retain him.

There is no doubt that it would make it easier to retain Wilfork if we extend his contract rather than waiting for the next offseason when he will be a free agent.
