The potential market continues to dwindle for The Twig and his Rosenhaus wannabe agent. Whah!

Interesting to see a colder perspective on Deion Branch than the Boston sportswriters. The two teams that should be most enthusiastic are the Eagles and Steelers, because they have a need at WR and because Branch whipped them both in big games.

So you'd expect to see more respect. That it's not there (in this one article -- neither the teams nor a popular survey, but still) is starting to tell.

Eagles | Like Branch, but unlikely to give what he's looking for

Eagles | Like Branch, but unlikely to give what he's looking for

Updating ongoing reports, Les Bowen, of the Philadelphia Daily News, reports it appears the Philadelphia Eagles landing New England Patriots WR Deion Branch is a long shot. While sources close to the team say they like Branch, they do not consider him one of the league's top receivers. Thus, they would be unlikely to offer him more than the $18.75 million over three years that the Patriots reportedly offered him.

Deion just needs to learn how to see it, and thats the same way everyone else sees it. Brady makes Branch better, not the other way around. I think that the fact he plays with Tom and has as many injuries as he has always had, (wow, tough sentence) really put a damper on his market value. Unfortunately, his agent seems to have convinced him that we HAVE to have him, because he makes this team better. Though he does, I just dont think he really has the impact he thinks he does. After this wek, he is sure to figure that out.

Anyone think the first round pick stuff may be driving sometimes to say "aw screw it. Overpay Branch and give up first rounders?"

I dont think they ever had any intention of truly trading him. Just send the message and to mess with his head. But, if a team does make a great offer, and both parties are happy, both have won. What is really going to be ****ty, is if the pats let him walk at the end of the season with no compensation. Now that would be ****ty.

I wonder if the paltry $6M per year he's been offered is starting to look a little less insulting now ?

It would be crappy, because it would mean that BB/Pioli had both lost their minds and forgotten to Franchise him so that they could trade him. They have the $ and cap space to pay the Franchise salary.

I found this blurb from Peter King pretty interesting with regards to another variable teams have in mind with regards to trading for Branch or not.

Even more importantly his valus as a potential FA next year.

"One final note, as one pro personnel man told me on Sunday night, with at least four wide receivers -- Georgia Tech's Calvin Johnson, USC's Dwayne Jarrett, Notre Dame's Jeff Samardzija and Ohio State's Ted Ginn -- likely to go in the first round next April, could a receiver-needy team scotch-tape its group together this year, then pick one of these guys (with a bigger upside, perhaps, than Branch) in 2007? In the end, I think Branch is going to be sitting there a week from now, having to make a deal with New England if he wants to play football in September"

According to Gibbs on DC TV, Eagles traded for Stallworth. One les pond for Deion to fish in.
