Philadelphia announces it has parted ways with the star cornerback after two seasons with the team.

    Very Interesting.

Unfortunately for anyone who signs him, he went from star, to crap, in warped speed. For 1 million I'd take a chance.

Would take him over Talib. He's worth way more than $1M. You don't go from stud to bum that quick.

He's got 4 million guaranteed. I wonder how much, if any, of that is subject to offset. I should have checked that a few days ago.

He's like the bizarro-McCourty. The Pats are looking for a man-corner so maybe he's a fit.

The $4M belongs to Philly, presumably over two years.

Fully guaranteed $4 million complicates Nnamdi’s situation in Philly | ProFootballTalk

Ok, so he's got 4 coming already. Maybe that will make him more comfortable going for a ring as opposed to top dollar. Probably not, but it's worth a hope...

1 year 5 million. Do it!
He succeeds = we get an amazing deal for the year.
He plays like he did in philly = 5 million is fine for a free agent #2 corner (ie bodden)

Who gives a damn for Christ's sake? I'm so sick of clicking on every thread on here and seeing every other message be about where the post belongs. Who wants to click through a 30 page thread to see the latest news? I say this as someone who rarely posts but likes to read the front page to get the latest Patriot/NFL news, as evidenced by the fact that it's probably been months since I made a post on here.

its hard to play zone in todays NFL without a great safety over top thats why the steelers and ravens are so good at it

I love when people try to act like they know what they're talking about by regurgitating garbage they heard elsewhere on the internet. The numbers show very clearly that he played at the same level he did in Oakland. The difference is no one ever watched Oakland and expected them to lose. A lot of people watched the Eagles and expected them to win.

The problem is that he was a corner being paid elite DL money. That is why they cut him.

And beyond that, even if he was as horrible as people suggested, he has a long history of playing at an elite level before going to the train wreck that is Philadelphia. Some team is going to take a gamble on him.

These idiotic "1 year 1 million dollars" deals are completely moronic and unrealistic. I'd be very surprised if he gets any less than 3 years and 18 million.

If he's going to sign for 3 years, $18M, I hope he signs that contract here. He's worth it.

Agree -- but if I were him I'd go with a 1 year deal so I could prove myself and get a 10 year deal the following year (or the franchise tag)

I'm thrilled that Nnamdi is now in the mix. It makes the odds of our adding a top quality big CB a lot better. It should be noted that last season he had his 2nd most passes defended (12) He had 14 back in 2005. Reports of his professional collapse have been greatly exaggerated. In fact while the Eagles had a horrible season, they ranked 9th in pass defense.

It also should be noted that the $4MM that the Eagles are on the hook for in 2013 will make constructing a favorable cap hit for the first year. If he were 28, he'd be perfect. But at 31 pretty close a perfect pick up. At best he's the shut down CB we're looking for. At worst he's 2013 version of Otis Smith, a big strong CB who can handle big WR in the short to mid zones. The guy who can cover the Anquan Boldin's of this season.

Asomugha is a much more talented CB than Talib. And the best part is he was cut. I'd love to see the Patriots give him a 4-5 year $30M deal to Aso, let another team pay $ for Talib, and then get the comp pick.

You people must not realize Asomugha is going to be 32 years old this season.

And his nickname should be drum, because he gets beat like one. No thanks, he's been garbage since he signed his contract. Rather have Talib, way younger and not as slow.

yah thats not how comp picks works. you get them based on net gain. so basically in a nutshell, if we let talib go and we sign an equal player we are net zero...and no pick

And how often do most NFL players actually play out the contracts they sign? Most of it is "funny money" that never turns up or becomes real because its not guarenteed. Getting him for essentially 1/2 per year of what was just given 2 years ago?

Give him a nice bonus (the Patriots have the cap room), a 4-5 year deal, and then in 2-3 years revisit it. What harm is there to that? If you need to cut him in 3 years, its not that big of a deal.

I don't care how old he is going to be this season (the same age as Welker). DBs is the #1 need for the Patriots and Asomugha is one of the top talented guys available. Alternatively, they could draft a couple of rookies. I prefer proven NFL talent.

Asomugha was cut and is not an UFA. Talib is an UFA. Its only UFA that are considered for comp picks.

I actually want Asomugha more then Talib, seems like a better person and a Veteran to help shape a young secondary. By all accounts a great team mate and a real pro. That said for either of them the contract I would offer would be a one year prove it type deal for decent not great money 4 to 5 mil with a 3 to 5 year option bonus after that at 7 to 8 mil a year. Basically letting them know you play great we will pay you well, if not thank you for the year good luck with a new team.
