drpatriot Third String But Playing on Special Teams

This guy sounds exactly like the type of player we would want to get a good deal on. He sounds like he wants to win, like Corey Dillon did, and I think he could be a fantastic pickup. Would you send a third or fourth rounder for him?

"We're all at fault, but I just feel like Joey's been here four years, and being the No. 3 pick in the draft, he hasn't given us anything," Bly told the Free Press at the time. "He hasn't given us what the third pick in the draft should give us."

With teammates like this, who needs opponents!

I think that was Dexter McCleon not Dre Bly.

Who cares what he said when he wasn't a member of this team? If he can play, I say bring him in, god knows we could use some help in the secondary.

I'd trade a 2nd-day (not round) pick for him.

It's time for some 5'11"+ CBs who can play, esp. if Samuels leaves.

Don't give me a defensive player who can't tackle. What am I going to do with him?

Trading for Bly this offseason would renting a high salary player for one year. Bly is more of a gambler than Asante is and doesn't tackle nearly as well. He's also older, slower, and smaller, but he may be a wee bit more savvy. Basically he's Duane Starks Part Deux.

    That was Dexter McCleon.

And, if you saw the NFL Films Super Teams Video of the 2001 Pats, you saw Brady get his retribution on good 'ol' Dexter by happily stating that "McCleon went for the cheese" on Patten's feint move on the TD pass to make it 14-3 before the half.

Bly is innocent of your charge.

I wanted the Patriots to draft him back when he came out of college. And I think he can still play, comparing him to Duane Starks is ridiculous, IMO.

But he's just a tiny little dude, and we've already got a shrimp CB in Hobbs. Also his attitude is a little questionable, but then again you can't hold it against anyone for getting frustrated because they are on the Lions (though he did choose to take the money and sign there).

I'd say the Pats should stay away from him, unless it were completely apparent that Asante Samuel was a goner. In that case, they will need to get somebody to step in there, though I'm not sure Bly would be the answer.

I think you are right on. He would be a good addition to this team. I do wonder, however, what the Lions would be looking for in compensation. If we franchised Asante, could he be sent to Detroit for Bly & a 3rd or 4th? Bly would need to agree to an extension.
