Draft Simulator

Here's a little trade exercise I completed using Walter.

Ryan Mallet to Houston for a swap of 2nd and 3rd rounders plus Houston's 6th. This essentially values Mallet as a mid to late 2nd rounder. I also traded down from the 65th pick (1st pick in 3rd round) to the mid 3rd round for a 5th round pick (because the Patriots don't have one). I used the draft chart, 265 pts for #65 swapped for a 225 pt. 3rd rounder, and netted the 132 pick (5th round) which cost 40 pts.

1st (29): DT Timmy Jernigan

2nd (33): TE Eric Ebron

3rd: DE Kareem Martin

4th: ILB Yawin Smallwood

5th: DT Kelcy Quarles

6th: TE CJ Fiedorowicz

6th: C Bryan Stork

6th: S Antone Exum

7th: CB Aaron Colvin

Oh, and I signed UDFAs WR Jeff Janis, T Matt Patchan, S Dezmen Southward, DT Shamar Stephen, OLB T Starr.

Used the Optimum Scouting database.

29 S HA HA CLINTON-DIX ALABAMA

62 TE AUSTIN SEREFIN-JENKINS WASHINGTON

93 DT CARAUN REID PRINCETON

126 DT JUSTIN ELLIS LOUISIANA TECH

182 S JONATHAN DOWLING WESTERN KENTUCKY

190 C MARCUS MARTIN USC

221 DE JAKE SNYDER UVA

Fanspeak's On the Clock Mock Draft Simulator

When Clinton-Dix fell to me, I just couldn't pass him up! Also landed ASJ which was a huge relief. After that, I loaded up on the beef on defense and I think we have two solid rotation guys with upside in Reid and Ellis.

As for Dowling, I didn't plan on taking two safeties, but I just couldn't pass on him that late in the draft. Marcus Martin was a - huh, he's still here pick? And I just like the way Jake Snyder moves on film. Might as well, he can't be worse than Jake Bequette! LOL.

If the draft actually shook out this way, I think our defense could contend for top 5 in the NFL!! And we'd have a good TE prospect and OL prospect to boot.

Fanspeak:

29 - Stephon Tuitt (didn't love him here, but everybody I wanted to take in the 1st was gone)

62 - Seferian-Jenkins

93 - Jarvis Landry

126 - Justin Ellis

182 - Walt Aikens

190 - Ryan Carrethers

221 - Isiah Lewis

Defense-heavy, but I like the 2 targets for Brady. Would have liked an O-lineman but didn't have one anywhere that I thought was a decent value at the pick. I like having a couple d-backs to learn under Revis and Browner.

(My first try with Fanspeak was off to a nice start, as Shazier fell to me and then Amaro, but then the thing froze :) )

really procrastinating this AM -- thought I'd run one with Optimum to round things out:

29 - Mike Evans
(I actually would have liked to trade up here if they permitted it, as Shazier, Ealy, Tuitt, Amaro, Seferian-Jenkins and others were still available)

62 - Stanley Jean-Baptiste

93 - Joel Bitonio

126 - Will Sutton

182 - Max Bullough

190 - Marqueston Huff

221 - Marcus Martin

29 TE Jace Amaro

Every time i run it, the first 4 teams picks a QB in the first round. That take's the fun out of it, there is no way in hell that's going to happen.

site got better with 3 different databases

used Optium database and got

29 G XAVIER SU'A-FILO UCLA
62 TE TROY NIKLAS NOTRE DAME
93 DT STEPHON TUITT NOTRE DAME
126 ILB JORDAN ZUMWALT UCLA
182 OLB ADRIAN HUBBARD ALABAMA
190 T CHARLES LENO BOISE STATE
221 DE LARRY WEBSTER BLOOMSBURG

Did another one with Walter Football's rankings:

29 CB DARQUEZE DENNARD MICHIGAN STATE
62 C WESTON RICHBURG COLORADO STATE
93 DE KAREEM MARTIN NORTH CAROLINA
126 DT WILL SUTTON ARIZONA STATE
182 WR JOSH HUFF OREGON
190 RB ALFRED BLUE LSU
221 TE COLT LYERLA OREGON

Just couldn't pass up Dennard at 29 despite other needs (DL, OL, TE).

Using the Optimum list and the Premium version here is my latest mock.

I traded back from 29. to 38 and picked up an additional 3rd and then traded back again to 44 and picked up a 5th.

This was taking into account Wilfork coming back and not addressing the C position in Free agency.

Oh and I am taking into account Bill working his magic and extracting #33 from Houston for Mallett.

Just did 4 rounds with Fanspeak (which is way off now in its rankings, it seems):

29
TE ERIC EBRON
UNC
62
C TRAVIS SWANSON
ARKANSAS
93
ILB MAX BULLOUGH
MICHIGAN STATE
126
RB ANDRE WILLIAMS
BOSTON COLLEGE

Okay, no way Ebron falls that low, so substitute Amaro or ASJ, but I find myself shying from DL with almost every mock. I like Hageman, Tuitt and Easley, but I don't like any of them all that much.

I'm thrilled that Travis Swanson is dropping in many rankings. He's a big guy - 6'5", 312 - and would give the Pats a big center for the first time in a long time.

I like Bullough (Spikes with speed) and think if they could get an ILB akin to this guy, they can shift Adrian Wilson to a cover LB position and be okay with the big three.

Heck, I'd be happy if the pats got Su'a'Filo, Swanson, Tuitt/Hageman/Easley and one of the TE's, and that's possible.
