    22. New England Patriots

    Maryland OT Bruce Campbell
(Last week: Campbell No. 27 to Cowboys, Patriots picked DE/OLB Everson Griffen, Oklahoma)

The Patriots offensive line isn’t getting any younger and Campbell’s quite the prospect. At 6’7, 310 pounds, the athletic tackle has plenty of upside. Coming off nagging knee and toe injuries, teams may be a bit tentative on selecting the still very raw Campbell in the first round, but his potential is too great for the Patriots to pass on him at No. 22 oveall. With four picks in the first two rounds, look for the Patriots to take some gambles with a few of their selections. Campbell only played in 27 games at Maryland, but is worth the risk. And I’m giving him the nickname “Evil Dead” for his namesake actor. A doppelganger for the guy? Not quite. Does he have the same name? Yes.

Guy seems like he has great upside...... I say get him if we can.

our O-Line is not getting "younger"

him and Vollmer would be a sick tandem of Tackles

Bruce Campbell will be long gone when the Pats pick at 22. Nice try.

Does he have an injury history?
    What is his experience?
What do pundits say about his technical proficiency?

I ask because Dante Scarnecchia shows a preference for guys with 2+ year starting records who get high grades on using proper technique. Mankins, Vollmer, Kaczur, Light, and Klemm were all considered good technicians in order to be drafted on day one of their respective drafts - that's what I'd be looking for, especially in an OL carrying a first round projection.

This is the same cr***y Fox Sports mock we took apart in another thread.

Just as in that thread, I note this line with amusement:

Michael Oher looks great in a Patriots uniform. . . .

Maybe they are not aware that the Pats drafted Vollmer last year???

I started the Vollmer band wagon.

Truth. I am aware..... but we need a RT instead of that turnstile

Vollmer is LT in my book.

but... what do I know? :rocker:

    No Jersey Selected

This guy picks and OT, RB, TE, and RB/WR in the first four picks. Has he any idea of the Pats requirements?

I'd rather trade that #22 pick down a bit, grab some additional picks, and draft Jared Veldheer in the 2nd to play RT.

I don't see Campbell still on the board at 22, but I suppose it depends on when the offensive tackle run begins in the first round. I can see 5 OTs going in the first round: Bulaga, Okung, Davis, Williams, and Campbell.

I don't see him dropping to #22. But you never know. A lot of GMs have brainfarts on draft day. Although I think a DE is more important than an OL. I'd trade back and get more picks. There should be some team wanting to trade up for a guy like Campbell if he ever made it to 22.

I feel like I'm on an island out here with some of my opinions, but I think he will be there at 22 and beyond. The guy is a workout warrior and it doesn't translate to the football field. I dont feel he'll be starting his rookie year without injuries in the depth chart. Why draft a OT in the first round unless you think he can start sooner then later? He still has a lot of leaning to do, but I could see the potential in the right situation.

This. Campbell scares the bejesus out of me. Big, long, athletic tackle who's measurables look other worldly. Seems awesome, right? Sure! Until you see the dude play or actually workout. His elbows stray when moving laterally, giving up punch and exposing the breastplate. His hips are tight, his feet are flat. He overextends his drop step, and he hops instead of drives when moving. They're not drafting athletes, they're drafting football players.

What a deep draft for Tackles. We are going to probably have four taken in the top ten and six in the first round. Once the first Tackle goes off the board whoever that is, teams will probably start scrambling to get their guy. Alright 3 in the top 10, I overstated it....

And the Pats will probably grab Chris Marinelli with the comp 6 or something. . . . :)

I disagree with most of you.

I put OT with CB and S as positions with very little need for a high pick. I could see getting one later as camp competition and a practice squad/development guy. But that is it.

With Light-Vollmer-Kaczur-LeVoir, Light will be the LT, and Vollmer should beat out Kazcur for the RT.

I couldn't agree more. As I said before it depends when the run on OTs starts- then they'll start falling like dominoes. Since OT is not a hole for us, the sooner the run starts, the better.
