Real World and BelichickFan are just mad that they have been dead wrong about the economy and American markets for the past 2 years.

What is the point at which they shut the DOW down for the day?

we need to thank our great governors for this one. Let the private banks buy out the other banks. I would say 1 cent on the dollar would make people think twice about things like that. Plus someone needs to pay for this. And it is not the government.

That's true if you divested before the decline, but I don't think you did. Now, true, you can invest more money, but when and at what risk? It's not as simple a situation as you say, since if this problem isn't resolved, companies may get bought and sold at a loss.

At any rate, your point undrscores the major issue I have with many Republicans: it's all about themselves. They don't care about anyone else. But, at 41, you are certainly part of the "me" generation.

Okay, what did Bill Clinton do to cause House Republicans to vote against the measure? Since, it clearly wasn't the fault of Republicans that the measure got defeated.

I took 20% out a few months ago but that's not what I'm talking about.

The lower the stock market the more shares I buy each month with my 401K. Assuming the Dow is at, say, 15K when I retire I am better off with it dropping to 10K, 9K, 8K and staying there as long as possible before moving up. As opposed to going to 15K today and flat lining for 15 years. At 41 I am still in the share accumulation stage of my life, not the wealth maintenance stage.

Now, if the market tanks and hasn't recovered 25 years from now you are correct that it's not good for me but I'll take my chances on that.

I think we have see the end of the inflated markets....at least I hope we have. Many people have told us that the markets were over-inflated by as much as 33% over the last few years. The over-exhuberance that Greenspan talked about never really died because our government wouldn't let it.

I think this is our chance to start over with the patience and prudence that is the history of the investment markets. To think the Dow first went over the 1000 point mark in the 80's and by 2007, we hit 14,000 points. There was something inherently wrong with that kind of growth.

Well, yes you are right about that, anyone up to about 50 years of age may be able to benefit from this decline if they don't need to tap into those resources too soon.

The prospect of me ever being able to retire has taken a big hit with this mess. But, I have to admit I'm just as much to blame via my choice 13 years ago to become self-employed and follow my dream, in which I put a higher stake in enjoying my work than making lots of money.

    I hope your 401K didn't cherry pick Merrill....or Lehman.....or AIG....or WAMU....or Wachovia....or.....Pickum.
The **** ain't over yet and this "correction" is neither natural nor therapudic.

    Good luck to you...me?

I'm in an S&P 500 Index, no cherry picking :)

I just moved my cash back into the market. Maybe we'll drop another 10-20%, maybe not, but 10 years from now this will look like a good time to buy.

What am I mad about MMav? Oh, and what have you been right about? The fact that I express my opinions, and explain what is possible, makes me mad about something? I always say that anything is possible, and that doomdayers, or MMavs, are never to be trusted. It just gets annoying to constantly have the forum bombarded with 3rd grade hysteria, by people who don't know their arse, from their elbow. If I'm mad at anything, it's the idea that innocent people could potentially lose just about everything they have, cuz of some other people's doing. The fact that you don't understand that doesn't surprise me.

    Ditto BF.

putt, nice on the gold. Hope you got in a long time ago too. If my opinion of your intelligence in on target, you'll be playing the role of the dude in the Corona commercials, sometime real soon. ;)
