Dolphins waive Jabar Gaffney

Was he active for the Dolphins at all? I doubt he's even healthy.

He was there for six weeks but only active for three games. Missed the first two games apparently trying to learn their system, then missed the game against Buffalo with a knee injury. Although he had a 30-yard reception against the Jets he didn't help his cause any when he had a drop of an easy catch in that same game that should have been a touchdown.

Not opposed to the idea of taking some pressure off the TE's. It is tough to build so much offense around guys that take as much abuse as TE's take. Gafney may not be the guy though.

Report: Jabar Gaffney suspended by league after release | ProFootballTalk

The mysterious season of Jabar Gaffney has taken another turn, as he was suspended by the league for two games after being released by the Dolphins earlier this week.

According to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post, Gaffney’s two-game suspension was issued Thursday, a day after he cleared waivers (Happy Thanksgiving), but no reason was immediately evident.

Gaffney seemed like such a natural fit with the Dolphins after he was cut during the preseason by the Patriots. Miami was starving for receiving help, and Gaffney was coming off the best season of his career with the Redskins last year (68 catches for 947 yards and five touchdowns).

But he managed just four catches for 68 yards in the three games he suited up for the Dolphins.

There were some injuries in there, but not sufficient to explain the sudden drop-off. The circumstances of the suspension may shine a little more light on it.

According to PFT, it's not recreational drugs. It's from a 2010 arrest that just resolved itself with PTD.

The fact that Gaffney apparently hadn’t reported or disclosed the arrest could have contributed to the penalty, given that the personal-conduct policy clearly imposes a duty on the player to notify his team or the league of any run-ins with the law. At the time of the incident, Gaffney was under contract with the Broncos.

Gaffney initially appealed the decision but then withdrew the appeal once the Dolphins released him. The goal is to serve the two-game suspension and then pursue employment with a new team.
