He's going to have a breakout year this year, mark my words.

I still think Meriweather had too many breakdowns in coverage to say he didn't get enough credit. He definitely progressed from his rookie season, but he was still a liability at times (most notably the 3rd and 15 in overtime against the Jets where he was positioned too deep in covering Dustin Keller). Meriweather still needs some polishing.
It seems like a LB was suppose to be covering the TE on that play. I could be wrong though.

Either way, Meriweather screwed up because he didn't seem to know where the marker was and had an opportunity to bring down Keller before he reached the first down marker and failed.
Personally, it looked like it was Meriweather's responsibility based on where Keller caught the ball, but it may not be him. I know Hobbs has gotten a lot of crap on this board for passes he didn't give up because he ended up being the first guy to the receiver after he catches the ball. So this could be the same case for Meriweather.
Guyton blew his assignment on the play. In a third and 15 it's obvious Merriweather would be positioned deeper in the field.
Actually I thought it was Mayo.....Merriweather met him about a yard or two short of the first but Keller fell forward tough to blame him he seemed to have a deep responsibility and came up to help after it was thrown. Mayo on the other hand seemed to drop back the wrong way (away from Keller) leaving a vacancy....(he could have done the right thing but it certainly looked bad in the replays).
I believe, from hearing both Vrabel and Belichick about that play, that the screw up was on one of the rookie LBs.
merriweather is improving his worst moment is the SB TD. when the cb hobbs jumps the slant it usually assume the safety over the top is giving coverage. merriweather if you notice is running at the back of field trying to get plaxico but never does.
i think i remember Hobbs talking about it saying he had man coverage and he bit but you cant look back..gotta have short memoryAre you sure about this? While I'd rather get shot in the face than have to watch that play and break it down, I do believe reading/hearing from either a Pats defender or Pats coach that basically the play was designed as an all out blitz and Hobbs was going to be left on an island w/o safety help. Just b/c Meriweather was going over to help doesn't mean he was supposed to be there sooner or was late to help.
I think the play was designed to leave Hobbs out there, Hobbs cut off the slant, the blitz just didn't get there before Manning could throw it up. Risky play call is all.
