You guys think Burgess will play in the first preseason game?
hes coming in for his physical tomorrow, so no he wont
I don't think so.
Hopefully his conditioning is fine.
I would expect him to play a few snaps. I think he has been in the league long enough for him to pick up quickly a good portion of the play book to be able to play thurs. With his limited time in a system similar to ours I think BB would want as much game situation as he can to better gage what kind of role would be best for him.
I am trying to remember if Ted Washington played in the first exhibition game after acquiring him. I don't believe he did. In fact, I think he missed the first two but I could be entirely wrong.
That said, I doubt we see Burgess this week. Let him get in here for Sunday, get some reps this week and then turn it up for the 2nd game.
as I cant remember if Ted played back then or not I am going to go more recent and say that I do recall Lynch geting time the first game he was here.
I'd say no to soon. he'll play in the second game.
I expect Burgess to get some time.
Washington played only two or so days after being traded for. That was week 3 of pre-season though, so maybe it was more necessary.
why in the world would they bring a guy who hasn't even been to training camp in and play him this soon??? not happening.
I'd expect him on the sideline in street clothes paying close attention to what his teammates are doing in what situations on defense getting acclimated from a distance to how things are going to go for him when he does suit up.
Was it really that late in the pre-season?
Someone mentioned Lynch, I forgot about him! I mean, I remember he was in camp but forgot that it was as a mid-camp invite.
If he has a good week of practice, he may see some time.
He may play a couple snaps its morelikely that he gets significant time for game two.
Ted Washington started on 8/22/03 Pats at Eagles, two days after being traded to the Pats
Well I just got off the phone with BB. He says that he'll probably wait until the second preseason game before sending in Burgess for a few snaps.
good find. I would like to see Burgess play, but I also wouldn't mind BB unleashing him during the regular season a la Moss
Obviously it was 2003, not 2009 but you get the picture......
He absolutely will play. Why would Belichick take away reps from someone who needs them the most?
Did you happen to mention to him that there are a few posters in here that are adamant that he paid too much for Burgess?
Why send him in to get hurt again before the real games start?
He will probably see some reps and if he produces during the regular season then I will feel better about the front line pressure and it could make Mayo a beast.
I'm sure BB is a devout reader of this space, otherwise, how else would he gather the knowledge he needs to make these decisions?
How else could he know how good a player Burgess is?
How else could he know how good the other OLB's are on the roster? About whether Woods will play, and in what types of game situations?
How else could he know how well Burgess has healed from his injuries?
How else could he know about the Raider's time line to trade Burgess? About how they felt about Philly's offer? Of other offers they may have had?
How else could he know about what the Pats personnel people are projecting for next year's roster, and the year after that, and how the two draft picks play into that?
How else would he know about Burgess' contract situation, and how much that matters?
He's so lucky to have us.
