    My guess is that if either of these men were assassinated, we'd have groups of American super libbies running around screaming for justice and accusing the US of being involved.

    My reaction would be...who cares?

    If one of them was assassinated Oliver Stone would Canonize them, many of todays new democrats would openly weep, Danny Glover, Sean Penn, Pelosi and harry Reid would all be Pall Bearers.

    You've got to at least slightly respect their ability to seize control of their countries. If it were so easy, everyone would be doing it. That said, I'm not a fan. There's a difference between respect and esteem. I don't hold either in high esteem, for obvious reasons.

    It would have been wrong for us not to respect the power of the Soviet Union, but it didn't mean we had to hold them in high esteem.

    No vote here because the lines between respect and esteem seem to be blurred.

    7 votes for no respect and one vote from someone who actually respects one or both of these losers.

    I just wonder if this ONE person would have the courage to admit it here openly....well, do ya punk?:D

    Yeah you should have made it a public poll. Although it's not too tough to figure out who on this board would have any respect, or admiration of them.

    While people in here might not have respect for the men named above, the majority of the UN does. Understand too, that the people who applauded here, are the same one's demanding billions of your, and my money. :mad:

    I'll use BF's post from another thread to explain.

    What an ignorant man Chavez is and the fact that he received support via applause just reflects the tremendous support OUTSIDE the US for "we want ours too!" attitude.

    To which we should reply, "If you want it, then work for it". Just look at what he said from a historical perspective. The United States is far ahead of all nations from an economic perspective BECAUSE we became advanced long before any other country. In the early 1900's, Venezuela was a jungle and had no economy. People like Chavez don't think they should have to work for 100+ (like America has) years to catch up.

    If Chavez, Castro or anyone else thinks that Americans will sacrifice a single hair on our bodies in order for Venezuelans to have a similar life to ours, they are out of their freakn' minds. Who helped us build our economy? Answer, no one!

    It just amazes me how so many people around the world have that "everyone deserves the same" attitude. The reality is, "everyone doesn't deserve the same".

    Chavez is one of those people who believes power should be in the hands of gov't. How can people support a man who tried to change the laws of his country's constitution (which he helped write) to enable him to remain in power?

    The man is a fraud....period.

    Does anyone find it surprising that all the communists & socialists at the Copenhagen meetings would give this loser a standing-O?

    c'mon now RW!:rolleyes:

    Respect if a funny way to phrase it, not sure about Chavez.. he makes a lot of noise, but in reality is just another egomaniac... in reality do not know a lot about him, except in the very untrustworthy news...

    Castro is another story, I do not like him. He has been dictator of a country for something like 50 years now, all the time facing an embargo by the US and has somehow kept his country unified despite many external efforts... in this context I respect Castro.

    But, do you think Cubans like living under Castro? They have no choice...think about how difficult it would be if we had no choice who our president was.

    Of Course they do, i mean doesn't everyone make a sail boat out of a old used fridge and then sail 90 miles across the atlantic with 10 family members in it? I'm sure they all just love to sail and it's not that their oppressive dictator makes their lives a miserable wreck.

    It also does not surprise me we have a few on here who would vote yes, to bad they do not do the right thing and move to one of these @@#@ holes though then were would they get their Starbucks in the morning!:singing:

    Did you read what I said, I said I do not like him, but I respect the fact that he has somehow been able to stay in power despite embargo's by the US etc... not that difficult to understand is it now..

    You want to turn an opinion thread into a sucker thread.. you just hijacked your own thread

    Don't ask a question and pretend you do not want to turn it into a sucker thread when you really want it to.. you asked for an opinion you got it.. what a freaking fraud..

    Yeah, you said;

    So does that mean you did not expect me to reply? It wasn't like I tried to tear you apart bro. All I wrote was;

    What did you get all pissy about? i don't get it... :confused2: Hitler kept his country unified for a while under much more trying conditions, but he doesn't deserve any respect.

    It is not about being pissy, it is about your continued fraudulent posting.. you said it was not a sucker thread, so I responded and you want to turn it into a sucker thread..

    Should have known better than to trust anyone on the right.. it happens all the time.

    You obviously do not understand respect... so to continue your false tirade, you throw in Hitler..

    Pure and simple once again, I do not like Castro.. but he has kept his regime together for a long time, despite embargos and many external efforts to topple him... that part of him deserves respect. I do not like his methods and the impact on the Cuban People... the comparison to Hitler pales.

    If you worded your question do you like Castro or Chavez???, the answer would have been easy.. instead you chose a grey term, respect, so it is open to different interpretation...

    And yet you continually infer that I'm a conservative-righty. Do you think that's respectful when I've told you several times that I'm a democrat? I am a democrat who hates socialism and communism and there are millions of democrats who are just like me Darryl.

    Why do you call this a sucker thread? Countering someone's comments does not make it a sucker thread.

    I wish you and those you love a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year Darryl! Although we don't agree, we are certainly fellow Americans and disagreeing is what makes this country great!

    Chavez? Could care less because he's the president of a half-azzed country that has very little to do with us, relatively speaking. I'm sure the people of Venezuela have their opinions and I could care less what they are.

    Castro was a compelling figure in the 50's and 60's. His overthrow of Batista- a puppet of American corporate /government influence- was justified but his subsequent lust for power and failure to implement a truly just society was wrong and unsustainable. Now he is a pathetic and outdated vestige of his own philosophy and original intentions. What's left of his regime will end soon because the US gov't is beginning to normalize, which should have been done 30 years ago. Once the corporations get into Cuba, then they can become a truly just society with a few controlling the wealth and the vast majority being piss poor like most of the other "free" countries of the Carribean. Then we can have a party and celebrate on our new tropical vacation destination.
