    I disagree.

The correct answer is "Hell, yes."

I would agree. I doubt they will though.

If he stays healthy and is fully recovered he would upgrade their pass defense.
With that being said, there is so much risk involved. In this case, a second rounder may have less (or the same) risk.

I think what we could pick up in the 2nd round would be worth more than Gay.

    #24 Jersey

    Negative.

This is a starting CB in a SB win who is an asset on STs also. Team is woefully thin at this position. I want Gay on the team.:rocker:

If we do sign Tory james, he would be a half way decent replacement for Gay.. I still hope the Samual thing gets resolved...

    Re: Negative.

Him always being hurt is one of the reasons we're always thin at this position.

A very valid observation. Fans always think draft picks are always able to produce the golden child instead a mess of pond scum...

Randy gay is a good PROVEN player. Most second round draft picks are hoping to be good enough to be capable of starting in the Superbowl. I got news for you, Gay did, D-I-D, did !

    Proven to be injury prone.
Gay had one good year and couldn't get on the field for 2 years afterwards.
I'll take the 2nd rounder, thanks.

We know Gay can play. A late 2nd rounder is a much bigger question mark.

I'll take my chances with Blue getting over his injury problems.

It depends how they are planning on using Gay. If he will be used as a nickel or dime back and a fill in starter, like how he was used in 2004, then I say no. If he is going to be primarily a special teamer like he was last year, then yes.

I hope they sign him because we can still match if we choose to. We have no idea how Belichick feels about Gay but if they offer then we either get the #2 or find out that Belichick likes him a lot. Plus if we matched, Gay would then be signed long term as opposed to becoming a UFA in 10 months.

I can't stand when people blindly only concetrate on injuries. Injuries happen. Players get healthy and come back all the time. I like to use the Rodney example for us. He got hurt big time 3 times in last two years and he is still considered our starting SS. So stop with the "he can't stay on the field" crap, please. Football is a contact sport and people get hurt all the time. Another good example was Colvin's hip injury few years back. Everyone doubted his comeback. Look at him now. Aren't you glad we kept him. What about Bruischi's stroke? List goes on. Point is, don't judge a player based only on his injury history. You have to consider his ability to play football.

I agree with you completely on this. He has PROVEN himself already. Nuff said.

I believe it was Bill Parcells who said that the most important ability a football player could have is durability. If a guy can't get on the field, he isn't worth anything.

And yes, I also believe it is a huge mistake if the Pats do not insure themselves against Rodney Harrison and Tedy Bruschi being hurt in 2007 by adding quality depth at those spots.

Gay is probably going to be in a training camp roster battle with some street free agents and a draft pick or two. To get a #2 pick for him would be highway robbery.

If the Jets sign him, they must be the dumbest organization in the NFL. Gay can never stay on the field and we could use that compensation to get ILB David Harris in the second round.

    #17 Jersey

A healthy Gay IS the best chance of improving this position.

I would rather take my chances with Gay getting and staying healthy because there isn't anyone else out there to sign, or were you thinking of a green rookie??

Randall Gay is NE's best shot at quality depth at the CB position, period.

What are you basing this on? It has been 27 months since he has done anything of note on the football field. There is no way of knowing what he is capable of at this point.
