In the end, some games depend on being effective on short yardage (3rd and short, 4th and short). We have no fullback. I guess we could us Vollmer.

    No Jersey Selected

Short-yardage offense? I don't think that Bill, BOB, Tom or the OL know what that means any more.

will i think they need to bring in BJGE

    for 3 and 1 or2

    and 4 and 1 or 2

we know maroney is that that guy a power runer

and taylor never was that guy for the jags

they had Natrone Means then James Stewart

    and latey Maurice Jones-Drew

for short yardage thats not taylor's game

Seems that you are somewhat upset that we did not sign Heath Evans or someone comparable... this is about the 4th thread that you have started all about the lack of short game or the lack of protection for Brady. The belief that a FB could cure our current O ills is really not known..

Would a FB made a difference last week?? Do not really know as we used a lot of different sets.. the week before we went with 6 O lineman with Light as Tackle Eligible..

I really do not believe that right now, many of us have a true barometer of this Offense and its capabilities.. also obvious that we were "rop-a-doped" in game 3, when Brady and Moss liked like the "old days"..

Do not know why BB did not pick up a FB, but he didn't.. really do not know what our short yardage game plan is, the body of evidence is really too small along with the plethora of passes to tell right now.. Morris and BJGE may be options.

Yes, I would have preferred to have a fullback or someone (like a TE) that might fill the roles of a fullback. However, I well understand that there are other way for a primarily passing team to perform the roles formally filled by a fullback.

There are many threads written that attempt to better understand this offense and how it will work. We have little data: the personnel, the preseason, two games and history.

Different threads discussed various aspects of the offense. All are related to us trying to understand the offense.

    Short Yardage
    Just RUN the ball
    2 TE formations
    protecting Brady
    screens and dump offs

Yes, I understand that our options are Green-Ellis and Morris. Perhaps that is why we haven't seen the formation.

I'm 99.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% sure that having a Sam Gash type of fullback would make a big difference in both the short yardage game and the running game in general. I'd expect that Belichick would agree with that assessment. He's simply chosen to go down another path with this team.

If you look at what Belichick has been doing with this team since 2006, I think you'll find it fascinating. He's completely transforming the style of play on both sides of the ball. I think he's gone too far with it in some instances, but it's been a pretty wild thing to watch.

How can Prescott Burgess or Lockett be more valuable to the 53 or the active roster than a fullback who can play special teams?

As many have been taught since they were children, the answer to such questions is "It's a mystery!"

Do not disagree, but in reality one player probably did not make that much a difference in the past two weeks... except for Brady. When he starts firing on 7 of his 8 cylinders, much will improve.. there will be bumps in the road, but overall a much higher degree of satisfaction..

As far as the transformation thing it is fascinating, the whole Tank WIlliams thing really intrigued me.. thought he would go with some very weird D alignments, and now with the emergence of McGowan and the addition of Chung.. still think we will see some innovation, before the end of the year.

In many ways BB is redefining the game...

You're asking that question of the wrong person. I said that what BB is doing is fascinating. I didn't say that I agreed with all of it. That should be pretty clear from my posts this year. ;)

This team has gone to a pass-dependent team with a full substitution system on defense. Both are groundbreaking in the way they are being done, and we've been witnessing some of the problems with both notions. Unfortunately (in my estimation), BB has put himself into an 'all in' position with his personnel moves, and he's going to either sink or swim with it.

So far, partly due to things out of his control, he's been sinking at least as much as swimming.

So do you believe it BB's intent to do this all along (that this is an optimal endstate) or did he feel driven to do this as a result of the Polian rules manipulations??? (nfl 'points of emphasis' each season seemingly targeted toward the patriots style of play)

Right now, the Patriots have neither a consistent short or long yardage

offense. If Welker and Moss do not play on Sunday, they may have no

offense whatsoever. I cringe at the though of Galloway being the #1

    wide receiver.

He's incorporating a lot of spread elements into his offense, for example. Whether or not that's something he'd have done pre "illegal contact clarification" is irrelevant. My guess is that it's probably a matter of making things that would have appealed to him seem even more appealing.

The offense will be fine if Brady is fine. The rest is important, but Brady is the engine that powers the ship.
