I always said I wish we would treat our illegals the way Mexico treats theirs.

Mexico acknowledges migrant abuse, pledges changes - Yahoo! News

MEXICO CITY – Amnesty International called the abuse of migrants in Mexico a major human rights crisis Wednesday, and accused some officials of turning a blind eye or even participating in the kidnapping, rape and murder of migrants.

The group's report comes at a sensitive time for Mexico, which is protesting the passage of a law in Arizona that criminalizes undocumented migrants.

Rupert Knox, Amnesty's Mexico researcher, said in the report that the failure by authorities to tackle abuses against migrants has made their trip through Mexico one of the most dangerous in the world.

it'd be nice to put a fence on our southern border, like mexico has. Of course the razor wire and machine guns might be over the top, but still they are much better than the nothing we get.

America Is Self Destructing In All Of It's Goodness.

When The End Comes And A Third World Dictator Takes Over America's Leading Liberals Will Be The First To Go, Third World Leaders Would Never Tolerate Their Slobbering Crazy Sh!t, Right Now They Are Using Them

Once the North American Union is completet, we won't need a fence and machine guns on the southern border. There's already one there!

One time I was on the bus from Belize, entering Mexico.. prior to entering the country with all of its militarist themes.. the bus pulled over and they had to "delouse" the bus to make sure that no Central American critters emigrated into Mexico... it was a really WTF funny moment..

No safety warnings or anything else, they just did it.. then when entered had to get off of the bus and walk over, the mililtary control that border.. not sure if it is different all the way across, but this seemed very odd...

US citizens would never accept being a part of the same country as Mexico. That would just increase our tax burden.

+10 for truth. Once the goals are reached everybody's in the same slave boat, all of us are equal and nobody's special. Maybe they'll photoshop those pics of Bush standing in front of a "Mission Accomplished" banner.

Maybe lower the price of oil, as Mexico is our second biggest exporter of oil... also more and more produce is coming from Mexico..

I do not advocate for this at all, but some interesting factoids that might burst your balloon..

As long as it wouldn't increase our tax burden on a per capita bases, that's certainly a possibility. but just the thought of changing the United States of America sickens me to no end.

I love the USA just the way it is geographically. Why would we want to change it?

The nation has repeatedly changed geographically -- why wouldn't it do so again at some point?

Don't be ridiculous. If Mexico ever became a part of the United States, the liberals would no longer allow it to be drilled for oil. So it would probably raise oil prices since it would be another source of oil that the left has taken and turned the tap off.

One would have to understand their geography and history to understand what you mean, Chico....you're barking up the wrong tree here.

    You mean like this?

Large swathes of the western US used to be part of Mexico. In 1836, American settlers proclaimed the independence of Texas, formally a Mexican territory. The US annexation of Texas in 1845 prompted the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), after which Mexico was forced to cede 525,000 square miles of territory (42% of its pre-war territory, 12% of the US’s current territory).

Mexico didn’t have much choice: a US army occupied Mexico City, and the alternative was total annexation. The Mexican Cession consisted of the territories of Alta California and Nueva Mexico, out of which were eventually formed the US states of California, Nevada and Utah, and parts of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming.

Because we can't afford it? ... maybe? :confused2:

We haven't annexed a state in about 50 years. And 50 is such a round number. If we begin adding on again, where does it stop?

Nah, I'm almost POSITIVE that a HUGE majority would be against being a part of a country that included Mexico.

...keeping in mind of course that what Mexico wants is irrelevant to this discussion.

Yes, that's what happens in wars. Oftentimes imaginary lines on maps get redrawn, and oftentimes in a manner that is more beneficial to the winner than to the loser. I salute you in discovering what just about everyone already knew.

Now I know your liberal guilt dictates you feel the evil United States behaved unfairly and we should feel bad about keeping all that land but I gotta tell you I don't really consider the politics of 150 years ago relevant to this discussion. Rather, the outcome is the only thing that matters.

I'm not advocating adding states, and particularly not advocating that now or any particular addition -- just commenting on "I love the USA just the way it is geographically. Why would we want to change it?"

Apparently PR didn't know. He likes it when the geography stays the same. I was merely pointing out that it doesn't.

You really do a good job at think you know things when, in fact, you know nothing. Nowhere did I SAY anything even remotely resembling your tortured logic here. Nowhere.

Is it a comprehension problem or a closed mind problem?

It's a "you liberals can't fool us because we all know what you really mean despite what you are saying" problem.

    No problem at all!

There is no specific forum rule forbidding the deliberate distortion of, assumptions about, and/or flat out lying about the posts of other members.

And you can't claim that there is a rule about any poster proclaiming (over and over again in a pathetically insecure fashion) his or her intellectual superiority over all other living creatures on Earth or elsewhere in the universe.

Nor is thare a specific rule forbidding the insulting of another poster and acting surprised when that poster comes back and slaps you silly.

Nor is there a rule which forbids, discourages, or punishes consistent misinformation and plain old-fashioned bone-headedness by any member...

I think I read that somewhere.

In other words, it's the latter.

That's what I figured. It was an easy enough assumption to reach - after all, people judge others based upon what they know of themselves - and since you know what you would do in any given situation it's only natural that you'd assume others would behave in a similar manner given a similiar situation when, in actuality, people do sometimes say exactly what they mean - no more and no less. They understand that opinions don't always match up, nor are they meant to, but that facts, facts remain the same regardless of who's telling them or how hard someone else tries to negate them. I said what I said - I offered no opinion and I meant nothing more than what I said - which was that not all of the demonstrators are illegal aliens and that there are plenty of legal and natural born citizens who are against this law being put into effect. That's undeniable. Read the dam papers. I don't have to "fool you," because the facts are on my side - besides that, you guys all do such a marvelous job of fooling yourselves it would be a shame to even attempt to outdo you.

You really oughta get out more, WP. You're obviously not stupid, you know. You could do so much better without having to resort to whatever tactics you think you see working around here.

I didn't realize you had a PhD in psychology to go along with your nursing credentials. Of course, we both know that what you're saying here is complete nonsense, but I won't tell anyone.

I also never said I was a nurse so I don't know where you got that at, either. I am not a nurse. I am a medic.

And what I am saying is not "nonsense." Think about it, if you will. I mean, really think about it.

How else do we form our opinions if not through what we are familiar with? From childhood on we are influenced first, by that which is around us and second, by that which we choose to be around.

It takes a brave man or woman to step out of the familiar and walk into the unknown. Sometimes, as aggrivated as I get around here, I know I am learning - you and I would probably not have chosen to hang out together at the local pool hall, WP, and thus I would not have had to face your thoughts nor you, mine. It is a small broadening of the mind, to be sure, since it all takes place on a screen but it is, nevertheless, a broadening, isn't it?

You can say you know a thousand people like me, but do you really? Or do you just think you do because you associate me with some bra-burning, ball-busting liberal do-gooder image you have in your head of a leftist female? Because if you do, you're not only doing me a disservice, you're doing yourself one, as well. You don't know where I camre from or how I arrived where I am or what may have shaped me in the meantime. I am not like anyone else you know or think you know and I am not a stereotype. Nor are you.

I honestly try to treat you as an individual - you sometimes attempt to treat me the same way but then you fall back into that "I know what you liberals are like" and you instantly cut yourself off from any real dialogue or the prospect of learning something. Because make no mistake, we CAN learn things from one another.

But only if we keep an open mind.

I apologize for what was an honest mistake.
I have no problem with that statement, but nothing in that statement logically leads us to "people judge others based upon what they know of themselves".

Once again I have to express my disappointment in you, MrsPFnVA, because once again you replied to a post of mine with nothing more than a fancy restatement of "I know you are but what am I?" - a favorite of 2nd graders everywhere. I know you can do better..!! :D
